Then, enjoy a leisurely walk along Hope Street, discovering stories of past residents with ample photo opportunities. Discover which house had a cellar used by grave robbers. Visit the famous Philharmonic Pub, where the Beatles performed in their early days, and see Paul and George’s former school.
- Rodney Street - Step back in time on this street, featured in films like Peaky Blinders and Sherlock Holmes. It’s one of the few streets that Georgian and Victorian residents would still recognize today. It also hosts Liverpool’s pyramid tomb.
- St Luke’s Bombed Out Church - We proceed down Hardman Street towards Liverpool City Centre, passing St Luke’s Church, known locally as the bombed-out church, which suffered significant damage during World War II. It stands as a monument to the people of Liverpool who lost their lives during the conflict. The church grounds feature monuments to the WWI Christmas ceasefire and the Irish famine.
- Bold Street - We’ll traverse one of Liverpool’s main shopping, cafe, and bistro areas before heading down Church Street. The site of St Peter’s Church, built in 1700 and serving as Liverpool’s Pro-cathedral until 1926, is marked by a brass cross in the pavement. Along Whitechapel, see where Brian Epstein had his music shop and office before moving towards the iconic Mathew Street.
- Mathew Street - For Beatles enthusiasts, this is where it all began. We’ll pass the Cavern Club, see the Eleanor Rigby Statue for a photo opportunity, and perhaps pick up a souvenir at the tourist shop.
- Dale Street - A short walk to Dale Street allows you to see (and perhaps enjoy a drink at) Liverpool’s oldest public house, built in 1726, before heading to the Georgian Town Hall, one of the city’s finest buildings with a captivating history, constructed in 1754.
- Castle Street - Moving along Castle Street, we approach the site where Liverpool Castle once stood, now occupied by the Victoria Monument in honor of Queen Victoria. Learn about the siege of Liverpool during the English Civil War and the discoveries made during the excavation for the Law Courts now partially on the site.
- James Street - We proceed down James Street, passing the offices of the White Star Line, owners of the Titanic, before heading to the pier head to view the famous Liver Buildings, Cunard Buildings, and the Port of Liverpool building. We pause briefly to hear the history of these magnificent architectural pieces before moving past the Museum of Liverpool towards the Albert Dock.
- Albert Dock - The Albert Dock, with its Victorian warehouses and former secret navy base for the North Atlantic war, is now a major tourist attraction in Liverpool. It houses the Tate Gallery and numerous shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes. You’ll have time to explore and take photographs before we proceed to the final location.
- Thomas Steers Way - Concluding our tour where Liverpool’s journey began with the world’s first tidal dock built in 1715, we come full circle with the Liverpool 1 shopping complex, the city’s most modern area, propelling Liverpool into the future.
