Day 1: Fes - Ifrane - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Erg Chebbi
Merzouga - After picking up guests from their accommodation, the journey begins by leaving the walls of Fez and entering the shade of cedar forests. The trip first traverses the Atlas Mountains to Ifrane, often referred to as the ‘Switzerland of Morocco’. It is particularly busy during the snow season as it is Morocco’s main ski resort. The next stop is Azrou, a forested village surrounded by mountains, known as the home of the Barbary Macaque. Leaving the Atlas Mountains, the journey heads south towards the Sahara gateway, Merzouga, passing through Midelt, a Berber village renowned for its apple, apricot, and plum production. A few hours later, the trip arrives in Erfoud, where guests will stay overnight. The change in landscape is dramatic, indicating the Sahara is near.
Day 2: Merzouga – Khamlia – Nomad Family – Camel Trekking
Erg Chebbi - After enjoying breakfast in the Kasbah, the day is filled with exciting activities. The first stop is Khamlia village, where guests are welcomed by the Gnawa people with their music and dance. Khamlia is home to the descendants of Morocco’s Sultans’ slaves and servants. After meeting a nomadic family and enjoying a cup of tea, guests can experience their remarkable lifestyle, unchanged for decades. Prepare for an adrenaline rush by cruising the vast dunes on quads with a professional guide and trying sandboarding. The journey continues to the desert camp, where guests will meet a camel caravan. Here, they will trade their vehicle for camels and enjoy a one-hour camel trek on the sand dunes during sunset, the perfect time for photos.
Day 3: Erg Chebbi Dune - Todra Gorges - Dades
Todgha Gorge - Guests wake up to witness the sunrise, another tour highlight, followed by breakfast. The first destination is Rissani, a city that served as a caravan trading post until a century ago, historically known for its gold and slave auctions. It was a crucial stop in the gold route between Marrakech and Timbuktu and the main road connecting North Africa and the southern Saharan countries. The journey continues to the Atlas Mountains towards Tinghir city, one of Morocco’s most beautiful oases. The drive ascends to the top of Dades Valley, offering stunning views over the valley and mountain gorge, before heading to Todra Valley. This valley contrasts with rocky canyons and huge palm trees, perfect for photo stops. Later, guests arrive at the famous Todra Mountain Gorge (altitude: 400m/1312ft), where they can walk through one of Morocco’s most captivating natural sights.
Day 4: Dades - Valley of Roses - Ouarzazate
Ouarzazate - Guests prepare to embark on their ride once more, heading to Ouarzazate city. Passing through the Valley of Roses, they stop at Kalaa Mgouna, a beautiful Berber town known for its annual Rose Festival and production of perfumes and beauty products. After stopping for lunch, the journey continues to Skoura, an oasis town where guests visit the 17th-century Kasbah of Amirdil before arriving at the final stop of the day, Ouarzazate. Known for its film studios, often called Morocco’s Hollywood, guests will spend the night in a Riad.
Day 5: Ait Benhaddou - High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
Marrakech - After breakfast, guests have time to visit the Kasbah of Taourirt. Shortly after, the journey continues to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco, built by T-Hami El Glaoui, the warlord who ruled the region. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Guests stop for lunch in the Kasbah, ensuring their phones and cameras are ready to capture stunning shots with the Kasbah walls in the background. In the afternoon, the drive continues to the Kasbah of Telouet for a visit, then proceeds to the red city of Marrakech over the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi N’tichka pass (2260 m in altitude). Finally, the journey concludes with a drop-off at the guests’ accommodation in Marrakech.
