Excellent Trip to Vesuvius and Wine Tasting - Two part trip. First part was to wine tasting at Cantina del Vesuvio with lunch which was excellent. Tried three wines paired with food.
Next stop was Vesuvius, it was cloudy, but we still has a good walk and was clear enough to see the view and crater. Giuseppe was a great guide and gave us some top tips

Awesome half day Mt. Vesuvius Tour with Wine Tasting and Lunch - We decided to do the half day Mt. Vesuvius Tour with Wine Tasting and Lunch. It was a great tour. After picking us up at the meeting point, our tour guide Titti and our driver Mauri started our tour. Titti kept us entertained on the drive with her humor and interesting information about the Naples area and things we were seeing on the trip. The bus ride was half the fun due to the narrow streets and skillful maneuvering Mauri needed to do to get us to our destinations. He was a master of the roads! After stopping at the winery for a delicious 3 course lunch and wine tasting and touring the vineyard (learning about the grapes and soil), we headed to Mt. Vesuvius for our hike to the top of the volcano. The views were amazing on the drive up and again, Titti explained about the area and pointed out things on the drive. And Mauri got us to the starting point of our hike safely. The hike was a bit harder than we expected (everything I read made it sound like an easy hike, but it definitely was not easy). It’s a gravely hike with inclines so be prepared. We took our time and made it to the top! When we got back to the bottom, Titti and Mauri were waiting for us to take us back to the meeting point for drop off. I would definitely recommend this tour and would recommend Titti and Mauri as your guide and driver!

Top of Vesuvius with Convenience - VIP package included pickup and drop-off at our hotel which was not one of those listed in the registration form. We walked downstairs from our hotel and the driver (Antonio?) was waiting with a sign. Pick up was at 10:15am which allowed the driver to get around and pick up others in this fashion. Was happy to sit back and watch the driver expertly navigate the insanity of Napoli traffic to extend this benefit to others. Driver was very professional and courteous, and the transport was clean and comfortable.
Once out of Naples, I was surprised that we drove to Pompeii first to pick up the tour guide (forgot her name, sorry!) and a handful of others who must have participated in an earlier activity. While we were quickly in and out, if I had known we were going to drive there we might have booked that activity as well! If I had to critique one thing, this short side-trip would be it. I'm sure the tour operator does it for efficiency and it was minor.
One thing not described well on Tripadvisor is the "Wine Tasting" part. Based on the 10:15am pickup time we knew that a lunch stop would be needed, but we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves at a beautiful vineyard and restaurant on the way to Vesuvius! There was a short walk and agriculture discussion, then we had a multi-course lunch with wine-pairing which was all included in the price of the trip! A plate of antipasti, spaghetti pomodoro, and a slice of cake with 2-3 wines. Antipasti and pasta were good, cake was dry, but the wine was wonderful. The operator should describe this part better as it was another highlight that I'm sure isn't free for them to provide and might attract even more people to the experience! It was a nice light lunch that was just right before the hike. It also gave us the opportunity to meet others on the trip.
From there the tour guide gave us our printed tickets for Mount Vesuvius which had a 2:10pm entrance time, and we were driven as far as public vehicles are allowed to go - within steps of the trail entrance. There were a ton of other people struggling to purchase entrance tickets online with broken wi-fi. No waiting in line, we just walked up with our golden sheet of paper and in! The driver and guide waited with the transport, so we were able to bring extra jackets and securely leave behind the ones we didn't need based on the weather... a nice benefit.
Once entering the park we were on our own for a couple of hours to hike up, soak in the views and grab a €2 plastic cup of wine (or other refreshment). It is a short but steep hike to the top. Almost all of the path is a dirt road - simple to walk on with basic shoes and navigable by staff vehicles. About an hour into our experience the wind really picked up sending clouds of volcanic soil through the air. We had already made it to the top and enjoyed a beverage while looking into the caldera and out over the Bay of Naples, so we went back down a bit early. By the time we reached the parking lot the staff had cut off new entrants to the park. It's important to know this is for safety reasons and outside the control of tour operators. We felt bad for other groups just arriving who made the journey and were turned away. I think half of Vesuvius may have ended up in our hotel shower later.
A short wait in the van with the driver, then it was back to Naples and a drop-off right at our hotel. The driver navigated everything perfectly as people drove on the wrong side of the road in rush hour traffic and I thought some motorbikes would surely be crushed. Trying to do this experience piecemeal on your own isn't worth it... just pay for a service (like this one!) and relax as you are chauffeured around.

Well worth booking - Giusi DP and Victorio were our guide & driver and both did an excellent job. The lunch and wine tasting was really lovely, and hiking up Vesuvius itself was a bucket list item ticked off for us. We were well looked after, everything went according to plan and timings. A lovely afternoon.

Wonderful hike of Vesuvius - We were picked up by driver close to our hotel and driven to Pompei, where we met our tour guide and the rest of the group, who had booked a full day Pompei+Vesuvius tour. We had visited Pompei the previous day with an archeologist, and we recommend splitting the tours as we did because the full day Pompei+Vesuvius tour is a lot for one day.
With that said, we had a wonderful afternoon. The tour guide Guissi was very friendly and helpful. The driver, Carmen (?) was an expert on all of the small winding streets.
After visiting the cameo shop at the exit from Pompei (yes, we got talked into a purchase, so watch out), we got on a very comfortable limo and fdrove to a vineyard on the shoulder of Vesuvius where we had a very interesting tour of the vineyard and tasting of their wines. The wines were very good, the lunch fare was ok but not great and you have the opportunity to ship their wine home. Then we drove to Vesuvius National Park. The hike up is challenging but do-able, and definitely worth the view of the calderia and the sea. The tour provided a bottle of water, which is essential. We recommend wearing sturdy shoes, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
It would have been nice to have a guide with knowledge about volcanos and the various eruptions.

Vesuvius and wine tasting at the end of April 2025 - Our guide was very enthusiastic and was eager to keep the tour on track, despite delays with traffic (as it was a long public holiday weekend) and picking up other participants at Pompeii. I had not expected the lunch at the vineyard with wine tasting, so a pleasant surprise. It was rainy when the group reached the trail at Vesuvius but the rain stopped and the sun began to appear as I reached the trail end at the crater, so had some good views of the Bay of Naples. Very nice tour overall.
