Torino Centro Storico - Palazzo Carignano: a celebrated masterpiece of Baroque Architecture by Architect Guarino Guarini, the seat of the first Subalpine Parliament and the birthplace of Italy’s first king, Victor Emmanuel II. This palace overlooks the evocative Piazza Carignano, a true Torinese ‘salon’ and the perfect place to experience the typical Piedmontese atmosphere of Turin. From here, visitors can also admire the seventeenth-century palace that has housed the Egyptian Museum of Turin since 1824.
Piazza San Carlo is Turin’s most scenic square, a royal Baroque piazza designed in the mid-17th century as a true reflection of Savoy power. Rectangular in shape, it is surrounded by arcades and theatrically enclosed by two famous twin churches. At its center stands Turin’s iconic monument: the equestrian sculpture of Duke Emanuele Filiberto. This renowned Savoy Duke moved the capital of the Duchy of Savoy from Chambéry to Turin in 1563, transforming Turin into a capital city.
