- Sacra di San Michele - The Sacra di San Michele is a formidable fortified abbey perched atop a rocky hill. To access the church, visitors must ascend 150 steps, passing 12th-century sculptures, from the Porta dello Zodiaco, a magnificent Romanesque doorway adorned with zodiac signs. Inside, the left side features 16th-century frescoes depicting New Testament themes, while the right side illustrates the church’s founding. Be aware that some parts of the abbey are only open on weekends, and during busy times, visits may be restricted to hour-long tours. Weather permitting, the views from the church’s walls and terraces are stunning. If snow makes access to the Sacra di San Michele impossible, the tour guide will propose an alternative itinerary.
