Uncover the secrets and mysteries of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The meeting point is at the monument to John Paul II, located just a few meters from the entrance. From this spot, the group will explore the iconography and meanings behind the painting of the Virgin, including the moon, the starry mantle, the ribbon, and the syncretism of the symbol of the fourth indigenous movement.
Next, the tour will proceed into the Basilica, where participants will explore the chapels and the altar on the first level. The architecture of the premises will be analyzed, highlighting the similarities and differences between the Virgin Guadalupe of Mexico and Spain.
The journey will continue at the Expiatory Temple of Christ the King, the Capuchin Parish, the Carillon, and the museum of the basilica. This stunning location houses some of the country’s most significant baroque works, featuring artists such as Baltasar de Echave Orio (and sons), Juárez, and Villalpando.
The tour will conclude with visits to the Cerrito chapel, the Pocito temple, and the old parish of Indios.
