Kaudulla afternoon safari with Kurama - I was staying in Sigiriya and booked for a 3pm safari on my own. Booking process was easy and I was contacted by WhatsApp to advise me that Minneriya was flooded at the moment, so they recommended visiting Kaudulla instead, which I agreed to. My driver was Kurama, he picked me up and as we drove out we actually came across a group of elephants crossing the road, so pulled over to observe them up close, which was pretty lucky. Once we got to the park and started the actual safari, Kurama demonstrated his eagle eyes, spotting a Brown Fish Owl sitting patiently overlooking the river. Throughout the safari we saw monkeys, crocodiles, peacocks, lots of jackals, green bee eaters, pelicans, cormorants and many other birds. On to the main event though; elephants! We saw probably 40 elephants, including several close up encounters, most notably with a playful baby elephant. Kurama was knowledgeable and told me about each animal as we came across them, but more importantly he was respectful towards the elephants, ensuring we never encroached upon their space or caused them undue stress. I had a great time on my safari and would recommend it to anyone.

Great. - The safari was just great! We were really lucky and could see a lot of elephants and monkeys. The driver was super friendly, always stopped when we wanted to take a closer look, and still kept the necessary distance from the animals. Overall a great experience, which I can absolutely recommend!

More than just elephants! - Our safari was a wonderful experience. Kumara, our guide was amazing at spotting wildlife and we saw so many things as well as a herd of elephants bathing in the lake before heading into the trees. We saw water buffalo, deer, jackals, many different birds and chameleons.

Nice safari and lots of elephants spotted! - Contact with the guide was very good, he thought along well with our preferences. Unfortunately, the guide did not speak very good English and did not explain much about the elephants or other animals in the park.

Nice safari and lots of elephants seen! - Nice safari and lots of elephants seen, the guide was not very good in English and also told us nothing (except when we asked for it) which I thought was a shame. He knew how to spot well, like a chameleon on a branch.

Not worth the money - I don’t recommend. The tour was only 1 hour and there were only elephants and 2 chameleons we saw which were in the first 10 minutes. It’s not worth the money unless you don’t mind seeing just one or two animals and the experience being shorter than advertised. I went to a temple in Kandy where I got to touch an elephant which was a more worthwhile experience than this. Also the driver wasn’t experienced and only closed the front window flaps to which I got mud all over my shirt due to the back flaps of the windows being open.
