Grand Bassin - Ganga Talao, commonly known as Grand Bassin, is a crater lake situated about 550 meters above sea level in the mountainous southwest of Mauritius. The shoreline is home to a temple and several small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other deities. During your visit to this sacred site, you will be amazed by the towering statue of Lord Shiva, which stands 33 meters high, making it the tallest statue in Mauritius. Ganga Talao attracts many visitors who come to pray, meditate, or simply enjoy a walk by the lake and its stunning views. The St. Denis River flows through fields, gorges, and green spaces towards the sea, offering a splendid view. Cascading over a basalt cliff, the Chamarel Waterfall plunges into an oval pool before flowing down a 6km canyon fringed by tropical forest to Baie du Cap. Visitors can view the waterfalls from the upper deck at the Chamarel Seven Colored Earth or from below.
