One of the main highlights within Hampton Court Palace is the Great Hall, situated at the heart of the Tudor Palace. Construction of Henry VIII’s Great Hall commenced in 1532, replacing a smaller hall built between 1492 and 1514. This hall served as a venue for daily dining and entertainment.
500 years of garden history
These gardens, now attracting thousands of visitors annually, were once the exclusive domain of royalty. Each new era, from the Tudors to the Victorians, brought fresh ideas and designs.
Today, the Gardens and Estate team continues the legacy of former royal gardeners.
From Charles II’s graceful Long Water to William III & Mary II’s exquisite baroque gardens, including the Maze, and the stunning displays of Victorian mass bedding, Hampton Court Gardens have consistently been at the forefront of design.

Hampton Court Palace, originally constructed by Cardinal Wolsey, invites you to explore its beautiful gardens, maze, and State Rooms. The original Tudor Hampton Court Palace was initiated by Cardinal Wolsey in the early 16th century, but it quickly caught the eye of Henry VIII, who brought all six of his wives here. Surrounded by stunning gardens and renowned features like the Maze and the Great Vine, the palace has hosted numerous nationally significant events.
Queen Victoria opened the palace to the public in 1838, and it has since attracted millions of visitors, drawn by its grandeur, ghostly tales, and magnificent art collection.
