Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa
Casa Salkantay Museo Restaurant - The journey begins with a hotel pickup in Cusco at 5:00 am, followed by a transfer in a tourist vehicle to the town of Mollepata. Here, the team that will accompany the trek is introduced. The first breakfast is self-provided, after which the group moves to Marqoq’ Asa to start the hike. The first stop is a viewpoint offering views of two valleys (Mollepata Valley, Marqoq’asa). The trek continues to Soraypampa, where a well-deserved lunch is served. Afterward, there is a 1 hour and 30-minute ascent to the Humantay Lagoon, situated at 4,220 meters above sea level. After enjoying this stunning location, the group descends back to Soraypampa.
Camp from Suyroccocha to Challway (Chaullay)
Salkantay Trail - The day begins with a delightful wake-up call and a cup of hot Coca tea to ward off the morning chill. The group prepares their gear for a beautiful day of trekking to the Salcantay Pass, experiencing the cloud forest and subtropical forest. On the second day, there is more hiking on trails than on footpaths. Although reaching the top requires more effort, the views are even more breathtaking. The path then descends over rocky terrain into a tropical forest area, marking the end of the Salkantay mountain trek.
Challway to the “Playa” camp
Salkantay Trail - The morning offers a stunning mountainous landscape, with a natural green trail leading to the beach. Along the way, there are rivers that feed into the main river of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the “Urubamba River.” The path often runs alongside the white river of Salcantay, where wild strawberries can be found in season. The trail is adorned with wildflowers, orchids, birds, passion fruits, avocados, coffee plantations, bananas, pineapples, and more. The walk lasts approximately 5 hours, with the camp located in the settlement of La Playa.
Llactapata - Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu)
Aguas Calientes - The group departs from La Playa early in the morning to avoid the sun’s humid heat, embarking on a trek towards the final stage of the journey. The original Inca Trail from Lucmabamba to the Llactapata Pass is followed, crossing the Santa Teresa Valley with its diverse landscapes (lush nature and a serene Inca trail). Upon reaching the Patallacta ruins, the first view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding Andes mountains is revealed, offering incredible vistas. The Llactapata Incan site is also explored. The descent continues through lush bamboo and coffee forests (Valle de Aobamba) along a path leading back to Hydro (a two-hour steep descent to the riverbank). From the Aobamba River, the road to Hydro is an easy walk to the village of Aguas Calientes, following the train track for the last two and a half hours.
MACHUPICCHU
Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - Early in the morning, the group takes a bus to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, entrance tickets are presented. A guide provides a 2-hour explanation of Machu Picchu. Afterward, the group returns to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Finally, the journey continues via the hydroelectric route to catch a bus back to Cusco.
