Mombasa City Tour - It was a good day trip. Both the driver and tour guide were accommodating. We stopped by a wood carving factory first. The products they made were lovely. Then we went to a Hindu temple. Next we stopped by the elephant tusks and the ferries. Then we toured Fort Jesus, then we did a walking tour of the old city. We skipped the tour of the spice market, since I wanted more time in Fort Jesus, which was the highlight for me. Then we finished off the tour with a trip to Haller Park to feed the giraffes and see the rest of the animals. It was a full day.

Very Full Day - Makes the Most of Your Time! - Two guides accompanied me on this trip, Anthony was in charge of the Mombasa City portion and Athumani was the one to drive me outside the city and walk with me through Haller Park. Both were personal, courteous, and filled with knowledge about their city that they were very happy to share. The tour includes everything on the itinerary, and a few additional things along the way. It's a very long, full day, but worth every minute because it covers so much in a relatively short amount of time.
Our first stop was the Mombasa Tusks, the unique symbol of the city. Adjacent to the tusks is a park that is home to zillions of fruit bats, which are quite amazing to see. Fort Jesus is spectacular; we spent a lot of time there. Loved that Anthony let me wander around at my own pace and never tried to hurry me. He was always on hand to offer to take my photo at different spots since I was traveling solo. A nice walk through the old down and a rest stop to enjoy some local juice drinks.
A lunch stop is provided in between the city and the drive out to Haller Park, but the cost of the meal is not included in the tour, which was disclosed up front so there were no surprises.
Haller Park is a hybrid wildlife refuge and zoo, but what makes it worth a visit is the interactive nature that you never get from a zoo back home. The most popular attraction here is feeding the giraffes. Guests can buy packets of pellets for 100 KES per bag and can feed the giraffes by hand, which is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. Be warned that the vendor can only accept M-pesa for payment, though. I don't have M-pesa myself, but luckily Athumani was there to rescue me and use his account to purchase a couple bags of pellets for me so I wouldn't miss out (I paid him back in cash). There is also hippo feeding which brings the hippos very close to you, as well as crocodile feeding from a near distance as well. I really enjoyed Haller Park in that the animals are brought face to face with you instead of being kept at relatively far distances in zoos in the West. All of these feedings are done back to back so you have a chance to experience them all. The feedings are done in the late afternoon each day, which is why the stop at Haller Park is saved for the last stop on the tour.
All in all, a great and satisfying day that ticks off all of Mombasa's highlights. Definitely recommend African Beast Tours and a hearty thanks to Anthony and Athumani for a wonderful day!

Vivienne provided lots of... - Vivienne provided lots of information about Kenya and Mombasa during the tour and it was nice to see the animals in a rural setting. Haller Park is really a zoo rather than a area for animals to roam freely, except for the giraffe's area.

Nice experience with lots of information about the city - Our tour guide was super nice and told and showed us a lot about the city. We drove to many small sights, the stay was never unnecessarily lengthened, which we liked a lot. Individual requests will be taken into account as this is a private tour. In the old town you can decide whether you want to walk a little bit or be driven. We had decided on the footpath, although in retrospect we felt a bit uncomfortable, because as a tourist you attract the eyes of everyone. The Haller Park is beautifully landscaped but small and is not a must if you have already been on safari.
