The guided tour of Monte Sant’Angelo will primarily highlight the historic center, the castle, and the Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 as part of the Longobard routes in Puglia.

The tour commences with an external exploration of the castle, initially a Byzantine fortress constructed before the year 1000. It was later accompanied by a tower, known as the Tower of the Giants, notable for its 18-meter height and 3-meter thick walls, and was expanded by the Normans, Swabians, and Aragonese.

Following the castle, participants will proceed to the exterior of the Sanctuary of Saint Michael, where they can admire the grand octagonal tower built by Charles I of Anjou, inspired by Castel del Monte.

At the main altar, visitors can appreciate the statue of St. Michael the Archangel, crafted from Carrara marble. The cave, where St. Michael the Archangel has been revered since the 5th century, is truly spectacular.

The tour concludes with a visit to the museum and the lapidarium within the basilica.
