- Rose Hall Great House - The Rose Hall Great House is an early 18th-century plantation residence situated on a high elevation amidst thousands of acres in Rose Hall, Montego Bay. This historic house was once owned by the infamous Annie Palmer, known as one of the most notorious plantation owners in Jamaica, who owned hundreds of slaves. Following her tragic death in 1831, the house became known for being haunted. Even during the day, it presents a chilling sight. Although there is no stop at the Rose Hall Great House on the way to Negril, the tour guide will share its history and slow down for photo opportunities.
- Greenwood Great House - The Greenwood Great House, another plantation home, was built in the early 18th century. Like many other Great Houses in Jamaica, it was constructed at a high elevation, likely as a strategic measure for overseeing the plantation and ensuring security. Unlike the Rose Hall Great House, Greenwood is not haunted and offers a serene and relaxing atmosphere. The house’s history and architecture are truly impressive. As you pass by, the tour guide will slow down for you to take photos.
- Columbus Park - Columbus Park in Discovery Bay
Discovery Bay is home to Columbus Park, originally named Puerto Seco or “Dry Harbour” by Christopher Columbus in 1494 when he and his crew landed on the island. They initially struggled to find fresh water but eventually discovered a source about 5 miles west, naming it Rio Bueno or “Good River.” In 1947, Puerto Seco was renamed Discovery Bay, marking the location where Columbus and the Spanish landed on May 4, 1494. The park features various old relics and artifacts on display, and there will be a brief stop to capture photos and appreciate the rich history of this significant town.
- Nine Miles - Bob Marley was born on February 6, 1945, and passed away on May 11, 1981. Visiting this small town is a must for tourists, cruise ship passengers, and visitors from Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Montego Bay, and even Negril in the west. Nine Miles is a quaint village in the hills of St. Ann, where the reggae icon Bob Marley was born and is now laid to rest.
Although Bob Marley moved to Kingston at 13 to live with his mother and pursue his music career, he frequently returned to Nine Miles to escape the fast-paced life of Kingston. Home is where the heart is, and Bob Marley composed several of his hit songs while in St. Ann.
Nine Miles, Jamaica, was always his home, and to fully experience Bob Marley’s legacy, a visit to this town is essential. A tour of this settlement provides a deeper understanding of the legend he became; the community today remains much like it was during Bob Marley’s early years. A Rastafarian tour guide will be available to show you around the property and answer any questions.
Still present are his first home and the bed he slept in as a child and adult during his many “cooling out” visits. The rock he used as a pillow, where he would relax, is also there. Many guests have reported feeling Bob Marley’s presence.
The Nine Mile Tour includes his birth and resting place, his favorite activities, and Mount Zion, where he found inspiration for his songs. Visit the nearby Ethiopian church where his body rests with his guitar. Please remove your shoes before entering as a sign of respect. Feel free to explore.
The drive from Montego Bay takes approximately 2 1/2 hours.
