This historic house was once owned by the infamous Annie Palmer, known as one of Jamaica’s most notorious plantation owners, who possessed hundreds of slaves. Following her tragic death in 1831, the house gained a reputation for being haunted. Even during the day, its appearance can be quite eerie. Although there is no stop at the Rose Hall Great House on the way to Negril, the tour guide will share its history and slow down for photo opportunities.
• Greenwood Great House - Constructed in the early 18th century, the Greenwood Great House is another plantation home built at a high elevation, a common strategy during the plantation era for overseeing the land and ensuring security. Unlike the Rose Hall Great House, Greenwood offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere. Its captivating history and architecture are sure to impress. As you pass by, the tour guide will slow down, allowing you to capture photos.
• Columbus Park - Located in Discovery Bay, Columbus Park was originally named Puerto Seco, or “Dry Harbour,” by Christopher Columbus in 1494 when he and his crew landed on the island. Initially unable to find fresh water, they later discovered a source about 5 miles west, naming it Rio Bueno, or “Good River.” In 1947, Puerto Seco was renamed Discovery Bay, marking the site where Columbus and the Spanish landed on May 4, 1494. The park features various historical relics and artifacts on display.
• Runaway Bay - This tour takes you through Runaway Bay, one of Jamaica’s most picturesque towns. Nestled between a stunning coastline and lush green mountains, it is a truly scenic area. The origin of its name is debated; some believe it was named after the last group of Spanish soldiers who fled from British troops led by Governor Ysassi following the 1655 British invasion, while others suggest it was an escape route for slaves heading to Cuba. Be ready with your camera as you explore this beautiful area.
• Dunn’s River Falls and Park - Experience the world-renowned Dunn’s River Falls, where you can climb the falls in a human chain led by experienced guides. Dunn’s River Falls Park offers a perfect setting for family fun and relaxation, with new discoveries at every turn. The friendly guide will lead you to the beach where the tour begins. The climb from the beach to the top is approximately 600 feet (183 meters), with pools along the way for photo opportunities and enjoyment. Let the cascades embrace you as you ascend. Pause at the ‘massage parlour’ to feel the soothing water as it flows to the sea. There are exit points if you wish to stop, and you can rejoin your group at the end. For those less adventurous, enjoy watching from the terrace or deck.
• Ocho Rios - Known as the heart of St. Ann’s garden parish, Ocho Rios is a paradise for nature lovers. Once thought to be fed by eight rivers, Ocho Rios offers a lush landscape of caves, gardens, rivers, and white sand beaches. The name Ocho Rios actually comes from “Las Choreras,” meaning “waterfalls,” reflecting the area’s numerous waterfalls. From Fern Gully, located in an old riverbed, to the tiered waterfalls of Dunn’s River, Blue Hole, and Secret Falls, Ocho Rios attracts countless visitors to its romantic and picturesque resort area.
