- Rose Hall Great House - This early 18th-century plantation home is perched on a high elevation amidst thousands of acres in Rose Hall, Montego Bay. Once owned by the infamous Annie Palmer, known as one of Jamaica’s most notorious plantation owners, she held hundreds of slaves. The house became haunted following her violent death in 1831. Even during the day, the house presents a chilling sight. Although there is no stop at Rose Hall Great House on the way to Negril, the tour guide will share its history and slow down for photo opportunities.
- Runaway Bay - This tour takes you through one of the island’s most popular towns. Runaway Bay is naturally stunning and is undoubtedly one of Jamaica’s most picturesque areas. It is nestled between the pristine coastline on one side and lush green mountains on the other. There is much debate about how Runaway Bay got its name. Some believe it was named after the last group of Spanish soldiers who fled from the advancing British troops led by Governor Ysassi following the 1655 British invasion of Jamaica. Others argue it was the escape route for slaves from inland plantations to Cuba. Be ready with your cameras as you explore this area.
- Nine Miles - Bob Marley, born on February 6, 1945, and passed away on May 11, 1981, is a must-visit for tourists, cruise ship passengers, and stopover visitors from Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Montego Bay, and even Negril in the west. Nine Miles is a small village in the hills of St. Ann, where the reggae legend was born and is now laid to rest.
Although Bob Marley moved to Kingston at 13 to live with his mother and pursue his music career, he often returned to Nine Miles to escape Kingston’s fast-paced life. Home is where the heart is, and Bob Marley wrote several hit songs while in St. Ann.
Nine Miles, Jamaica, was always his home, and to fully experience Bob Marley, visiting this village is essential. A tour of this settlement provides a deeper understanding of the legend he became; the community today remains much like it was during Bob Marley’s early days. A Rastafarian tour guide will be available to show you around the property and answer any questions.
Still present is his first home and the bed he slept in as a child and as an adult during his many “cooling out” visits. The rock he used as a pillow, where he would relax, is also there. Many guests have reported feeling Bob Marley’s presence.
The Nine Mile Tour includes his birth and resting place, his favorite activities, and Mount Zion, where he found inspiration for his songs. Visit the nearby Ethiopian church where his body rests with his guitar. Please remove your shoes before entering as a sign of respect. Feel free to explore.
After the Nine Mile Tour, there will be a stop for lunch at a local jerk chicken restaurant.
- Dunn’s River Falls and Park - The world-famous Dunn’s River Falls is undoubtedly the most gentle and beautiful waterfall. By now, you should be wearing your swimsuits, so all you need to do is check in, meet your resident guide, go through the briefing, sign the waiver form, and enjoy the fun. Professional photographers are stationed at Dunn’s River to accompany you on the trip – you can purchase your pictures at the end if you like, but feel free to bring your waterproof cameras, and your Falls Guide will assist you by taking pictures. Your walk to the starting point is about 2 minutes down to the beach, where you will begin the 600 ft. (183 meters) climb. Be prepared for the cool, refreshing water hitting your body for the first time. Your total time at Dunn’s River Falls will be approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. If you are unable to complete the climb, it’s no problem - there are exit points along the way for you to leave. Feel free to ask your tour guide to point out the areas of the falls featured in the James Bond movie (Doctor No). Kindly head directly to the bus as soon as the climb is complete.
- Columbus Park Museum - In the town of Discovery Bay, you will find Columbus Park. Originally named Puerto Seco (“Dry Harbour”) by Christopher Columbus in 1494 when he and his men landed on the island, they could not find fresh water to drink. They later discovered fresh water about 5 miles west of the town, naming the location Rio Bueno (“Good River”) due to the quality of the water. However, the town of Puerto Seco was renamed Discovery Bay in 1947 because it is where the Spanish, led by Christopher Columbus, landed during their invasion of the island on May 4, 1494. The park features several old relics and artifacts on display. There will be a brief stop to take photos and capture the rich history of this historic town.
- Greenwood Great House - The Greenwood Great House, a plantation home, was built in the early 18th century. Like most other Great Houses in Jamaica, it was constructed at a high elevation. This was likely a strategy during the plantation era for overseeing the plantation and for security purposes. Unlike the Rose Hall Great House, Greenwood Great House is not haunted but offers a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The history and architecture of the house are truly impressive. As you pass by, feel free to take photos when your tour guide slows down.
