- Rose Hall Great House - The Rose Hall Great House is an early 18th-century plantation residence situated on a high elevation across thousands of acres in Rose Hall, Montego Bay. This house was once owned by the infamous Annie Palmer, known as one of the most notorious plantation owners in Jamaica. She owned numerous slaves and was responsible for the deaths of three of her four husbands, with the fourth husband strangling her. Following her violent death in 1831, the house became haunted. Even during the day, the house has an eerie appearance. Although there is no stop at the Rose Hall Great House on the way to Negril, the tour guide will share its history and slow down for photo opportunities.
- Greenwood Great House - The Greenwood Great House, another plantation home, was built in the early 18th century. Like many other Great Houses in Jamaica, it was constructed at a high elevation, likely as a strategy for overseeing the plantation and for security. Unlike the Rose Hall Great House, Greenwood is not haunted and offers a more serene and relaxing atmosphere. The house’s history and architecture are truly impressive. As you pass by, feel free to take photos when the tour guide slows down.
- Columbus Park - Columbus Park is located in the town of Discovery Bay. Originally named Puerto Seco or “Dry Harbour” by Christopher Columbus in 1494, it was so named because Columbus and his men initially couldn’t find fresh water. They later discovered fresh water about 5 miles west, naming that location Rio Bueno or “Good River.” In 1947, Puerto Seco was renamed Discovery Bay, marking the spot where Columbus and the Spanish landed on May 4, 1494. The park features several old relics and artifacts (currently closed for renovations). There will be a brief stop to capture photos and appreciate the rich history of this historic town.
- Dunn’s River Falls and Park - Upon reaching Ocho Rios, the first stop is the renowned Dunn’s River Falls, where a knowledgeable waterfall guide will assist your group during the climb. The 1.5-hour hike involves navigating curves and safely ascending approximately 600 feet up the cascading waterfalls. Enjoy splashing in the mini pools along the way.
After an exhilarating experience at Dunn’s River Falls, enjoy a brief private tour of Ocho Rios highlights, including hassle-free shopping for souvenirs, rums, coffee, t-shirts, and more. Following shopping, head to Scotchies Outdoor Garden Restaurant for lunch (at your own expense) and savor an authentic Jamaican jerk meal. After lunch, the bus will return you to your Montego Bay or Grand Palladium hotel.
- Ocho Rios - Known as the heartbeat of St. Ann’s garden parish, Ocho Rios is a paradise for nature lovers. Once thought to be watered by eight rivers, Ocho Rios offers a lush landscape of caves, gardens, rivers, and white sand beaches. The name Ocho Rios actually comes from “Las Choreras,” meaning “waterfalls,” reflecting the area’s many waterfalls. From Fern Gully, located in an old riverbed, to the tiered waterfalls of Dunn’s River, Blue Hole, and Secret Falls, Ocho Rios is home to some of Jamaica’s most popular attractions, drawing thousands of visitors to this romantic, picturesque resort area.
Ocho Rios is a small “Colonial Styled Town” with a population of about 25,000. It offers a range of activities from golf to watersports, equestrian pursuits, and soft adventure activities. The area is roughly equidistant between Kingston and Montego Bay.
- Market in Ocho Rios - Shopping in Ocho Rios during this day trip will take place at the Ocho Rios Craft Market or a similar venue. A wide variety of items are available, including rums, coffee, T-shirts, hats, jewelry, wood carvings, and art. It’s advisable to carry small bills, as not all vendors accept credit cards, and they may not have change in USD, resulting in receiving a lot of Jamaican dollars as change. Credit cards are not widely accepted in the Craft Market area, so ensure you have enough cash.
- Scotchies Drax Hall - Scotchies Outdoor Garden Restaurant is renowned for offering some of the best jerk chicken and pork. It’s highly recommended to conclude your day’s activities with a visit to Scotchies for the ultimate jerk experience. The food is prepared with the whole family in mind, so even children can enjoy the tender, juicy pork and succulent chicken with festival. Steamed vegetables are also available for non-meat eaters. Don’t miss the chance to try the homemade Scotchies specialty hot sauce made from locally sun-ripened Scotch Bonnet Peppers.
