Juan Carlos rocks - I did a self guided tour, but I happened to walk past Juan Carlos and his tour group while they were looking at a rare ornate hawk eagle and he took incredible photos and videos for me through the ocular. He was super nice and knowledgeable

Amazing birding with Jean Carlo! - The experience with Jean Carlo was exactly what my wife and I were hoping for! He has extensive knowledge of the birds in the area and was extremely helpful in spotting and then leading us to the location of the bird. We were able to physically spot 42 birds and heard many others. I would highly recommend a tour with Jean Carlo to anyone.
The entrance fee to the park is $25 and worth every penny. It is a beautiful park and we were able to see incredible birds there.

The best bird tour we did in Costa Rica - Be sure to book a bird watching tour with Juan Carlos, this was the best tour we did whilst in Costa Rica. We saw so many rare birds, and even saw an ornate hawk-eagle feasting on a squirrel. Juan is very friendly and has an infinite amount of knowledge, clearly an expert in his field.

5 STAR experience with a true expert and many rare bird sightings! - We had an incredible time during this experience with Jean Carlo. Our morning started with birding outside of Curi Cancha for about an hour and a half, during which we saw 36 species (warblers, parrots, toucans, motmot, etc.). We were then given a chance to have breakfast at a cafe before continuing onto Curi Cancha, where we saw 31 additional species (hummingbirds, an owl, quetzal)! We had so much fun hiking through the cloud forest while Jean Carlo excitedly pointed out every bird he saw, with an incredible ending spotting the Resplendent Quetzal. We also learned so much about bird watching and the tools available to bolster your experience. From start to finish the experience lasted from 6 AM to 12 PM. We would recommend this to anyone!

Stop debating whether you should use Jean Carlo and just book it. - If you’re questioning whether you should book your birding tour with Jean Carlo or someone else, just stop and book with Jean Carlo. What an incredible experience. Close to 70 species in under 6 hours. His knowledge is unrivaled, as is his ear and spotting ability. He’s a heck of a nice guy, to boot. We had multiple species we never would’ve found without him - Spectacled Owl, Green Hermit, Olivaceous Woodcreeper, Ovenbird, Black-Thighed Grosbeak, and our goal, Resplendent Quetzal. He also got us amazing photos through his scope. 10/10 would recommend.
STOP DEBATING AND BOOK IT!

Extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide! - I am so glad I reached out to Jean Carlo when planning our Costa Rica trip from the USA. He was extremely easy to communicate with while we were trying to figure out what it was we wanted to do. In the end, we hired him as our private guide for the Monteverde area, where we had a lovely and informative birding and nature walk through the Santa Elena cloud forest reserve.
The next morning he drove us from Monteverde to Playa Flamingo on the Pacific Coast, where we were spending the last two days of our vacation. As we set out early in the morning, he took us on a little detour to see a very unique bird, the Potoo; absolutely amazing! About halfway to the coast, we stopped to do a Tempisque River boat tour which he had coordinated for us at my request. This allowed us to view a wider variety of birds and wildlife than what we had seen in Monteverde.
Jean Carlo is very knowledgeable and passionate about birding and nature. I am so happy that he was able to do a private tour with us, so that we could customize it to do and see the things that we wanted to
During our tours with Jean Carlo, we spotted over 50 varieties of birds, and learned a lot about Costa Rica and its culture and people. What an experience! I highly recommend him!

Incredible personal birding experience in Monteverde - A brilliant experience with a super knowledgeable guide, Jean Carlo. We were brand new to bird watching and with his help, we learned so many tips and tricks and ended up spotting over 70 different kinds of birds. He took us to different locations before guiding us through the reserve. A perfect morning in Monteverde - it felt like he was sharing his passion with us rather than a “tour” and we loved it. At one point, he recognised a rare bird’s call and searched through the bushes to locate it. We would have only seen 1/10 of the things we did without his help. If you’re thinking it’s expensive, we thought so too until we did it and then were certain it was incredible value for money.
It’s an early start with a lot of walking so come well rested, pack snacks and wear layers as it can get cooler in places.
