Londorossi Gate (2250m) – Big Tree Camp (2780m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Begin your adventure with a two and a half hour drive to Londorossi Gate for registration with the national park authorities. Continue driving 15 km into the lush rainforest to the starting point. A moderately steep trail leads to Big Tree Camp (2780m). Keep an eye out for monkeys and fascinating birds along the way. Tents will be set up, and hot tea and washing water will be ready for you.
Forest Camp to Shira One Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - Ascend from the forested slopes of Lemosho through Podocarpus and Juniper forests, emerging onto the heath zone and the Shira Plateau. Enjoy lunch on the trail and arrive at camp by mid-afternoon. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.
Shira One Camp to Shira Two Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - After a longer hike and significant altitude gain, today is a shorter day, allowing you to reach Shira 2 camp in time for lunch. This day is excellent for acclimatization, with an optional afternoon walk with your guides. Overnight at Shira 2 Camp.
Shira Two Camp to Lava Tower Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - The path to Lava Tower leads you from the heath zone into the alpine desert zone, where few plants or animals can endure the extreme conditions. Enjoy a half-day hike with lunch at camp. In the afternoon, weather permitting, there is an option to climb to the top of the nearby Lava Tower. Overnight at Lava Tower Camp.
Lava Tower Camp - Karanga Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - After two half-days, you will have a longer trek to Karanga camp. Staying at Karanga camp is strategic for acclimatization, and you will arrive in the late afternoon. The sunsets here are breathtaking, with views of the southern glacial valleys and ice fields towering over 1000 meters (over 3000 feet) above. Overnight at Karanga Camp.
Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today involves a half-day ascent to Barafu camp. Lunch is served at camp, providing ample time to relax before the summit attempt. The alpine desert is desolate, and strong winds may sweep through, yet the evening offers stunning views of Mawenzi volcano. Overnight at Barafu Camp.
Barafu Camp (4640m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka Camp (3080m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Depart just after midnight in the dark and cold, climbing the frozen volcanic dust by headlamp towards Stella Point on the crater rim, a journey of about six hours. The sunrise should greet you upon arrival. Just an hour or two more, and you will stand at Uhuru Peak, the highest point of the crater. Celebrate with photos and hugs before descending the steep, dusty path. By now, the volcanic ash will have thawed. Pause for a tea break at Barafu, then continue downhill for about three hours to Mweka camp (3080m), your overnight stop. Rehydrate and enjoy a hearty supper.
Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate
Mount Kilimanjaro - Begin the day with a traditional farewell ceremony from the porters. After a comfortable three-hour descent through the lush forest, you will reach Mweka gate, where the driver will be ready to take you back to Keys Hotel in Moshi town. A hot shower, a cold drink, a debrief, and your certificate of achievement await you. Congratulations!
