• Kikuletwa Hot Springs - Also known as Rundugai hot water springs or Chemka hot springs, Kikuletwa Hot Springs is a hidden gem nestled in the desert scrub near the town of Boma, approximately 71 km from Arusha. This remarkable natural wonder emerges from underground in the midst of a dry and dusty landscape. Contrary to its name, the water is pleasantly warm rather than hot! It’s an ideal spot for a picnic and a swim, with stunning views of Kilimanjaro on a clear day.

The crystal-clear, turquoise waters, surrounded by palm trees and winding roots, create a picturesque setting for a leisurely afternoon swim. The spring is quite expansive and reaches depths of over 6 meters in some areas, yet the bottom is visible through the clear waters from any point. Visitors can enjoy as much fun or relaxation as they desire, catering to both the mind and body.

This itinerary typically begins with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, followed by a drive on a paved road to Boma Ng’ombe. From there, the journey continues on a gravel road for approximately 30 minutes. This route offers stunning views of the African countryside, passing through bushland, dry riverbeds, and landscapes dotted with baobab and acacia trees, among others. This expansive area, once a hunting ground for Europeans in the 1800s, is now home to various tribes living harmoniously as neighbors. Although the game has moved on, the area remains a sanctuary for numerous animal species, including a diverse array of birds. Upon reaching Kikuletwa, it will appear as an oasis encircled by expansive fig trees amidst the semi-arid terrain. Here, you will witness crystal-clear water bubbling from underground caves, creating the illusion of boiling, which is why it is called the “Hot Springs.”
