Day trip to maasi village - This day trip to Materuni Waterfalls and the local coffee tour was one of the absolute highlights of my time in Tanzania! The combination of natural beauty, cultural experience, and local hospitality made it truly unforgettable. The hike to Materuni Waterfalls was scenic and refreshing. The trail winds through lush greenery, banana farms, and small Chagga villages. It wasn’t too strenuous, but sturdy shoes are a good idea. The waterfall itself is stunning—tall, powerful, and surrounded by pristine nature. There’s even an opportunity to take a dip in the natural pool at the base (if you're brave enough—the water is cold!). After the hike, we were welcomed into a local village for the coffee-making experience. This was such a fun and interactive part of the day. We learned about the entire process from bean to cup—picking, roasting, grinding—and we got to participate in every step. The singing and dancing that accompanied the grinding was such a joyful, unexpected surprise. And of course, the freshly brewed coffee at the end was delicious—some of the best I’ve ever had! Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and shared so much about the Chagga culture and the area. Everything felt authentic and not rushed, which made the experience even more special. If you’re near Moshi or Kilimanjaro, I highly recommend this tour. It’s the perfect blend of nature, culture, and local flavor. Don’t miss it!

Day Trip from Moshi - A Perfect Day Trip from Moshi If you're in the Moshi area and looking for a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation, I highly recommend a combined trip to Materuni Waterfalls and Kikuletwa Hot Springs. 🌄 Materuni Waterfalls Materuni is a beautiful and peaceful village located just outside of Moshi. The hike to the waterfall was not too difficult, but it was scenic and full of local charm. Along the way, our guide shared insights about the Chagga culture and local plants. The waterfall itself is stunning – tall, powerful, and surrounded by lush green forest. You can take a refreshing dip if you're up for it (though the water is cold!), or just enjoy the view and take photos. A highlight was the coffee tour we did with local villagers. We learned how coffee is grown, processed, and roasted – and even got to grind and brew our own cup the traditional way. The singing and dancing during the coffee-making process made it feel really authentic and fun. 💦 Kikuletwa (Chemka) Hot Springs After the hike, heading to the hot springs was the perfect way to unwind. Located in a more remote area, the hot springs are like an oasis in the middle of dry land – crystal clear, warm, and surrounded by fig trees. The water is clean and beautifully blue-green. You can swim, relax, and even swing into the water from a rope swing. It’s a great spot for photos and just soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. There are also small local vendors selling snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. It’s not overly commercialized, which I appreciated.

Hike to Materuni Falls, Coffee Experience with the Chagga and Thermal Baths in Chemka - Nice walk to the base of the Materuni waterfalls, where you can take beautiful photos right at the base. Then you continue with the coffee experience at the Chagga's house. And top off the day with a visit and swim in the hot springs of Chemka. Guide and driver Willy did a fabulous job throughout the excursion.

Peaceful but beautiful mix of activities - A great experience visiting Materuni village and waterfall, the last village before Kilimanjaro. The waterfall was absolutely insane, one of the few experiences has left me nearly speechless. Super informative guides who were very friendly, kind and great with a camera! The coffee tour was also really interesting, learnt lots about the process. Everyone was really energetic , singing and dancing as we made the coffee together. Lunch was a traditional home cooked meal- delicious and plentiful. Hot springs was another highlight, the water was so clear and calm, the whole place just peaceful. Definitely book in if you want a whole day experience with locals!

Day trip to materuni with tuk tuk - Amazing place!!! I will repeat every time to come and announce this area, a very good reception from Mr. Hashimu took us to a place that I had never even thought about its beauty, we had a chance to take pictures but we also had a chance to be educated about the coffee crop from where it is cultivated and prepared until you can drink coffee hopefully in February or beginning of March I will be there with my entire team
