This delightful location is only 15km from Moshi Town and is the final village before reaching Kilimanjaro National Park. Begin your adventure with a visit to the waterfalls, which are approximately a 40-minute walk away. The trail can be slippery and muddy, so it’s advisable to wear sturdy hiking boots. The views are absolutely stunning, and with some luck, you might catch a glimpse of Kilimanjaro’s summit. Upon reaching the waterfalls, you’ll find they stand over 80 meters tall. The pool at the base of the waterfall is perfect for a refreshing swim, so remember to bring your swimwear! After enjoying the scenery, you’ll leisurely return with your guide to Materuni village, where a traditional Chagga lunch awaits. You’ll also have the chance to sample the local banana beer – a must-try! Tip: Chagga tribesmen are renowned as Tanzania’s finest brewers.
• Materuni Waterfalls - But there’s more to explore. Next, the coffee experience awaits. Here, you’ll discover how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted, and processed. You’ll also be invited to participate in grinding the coffee, traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances – a delightful way to engage with the local culture. Before departing, savor the coffee you helped create while enjoying the views of the surrounding rainforest.
• Kikuletwa Hot Springs - Following the coffee tour in Materuni, your journey continues to the Kikuletwa Hot Springs. The drive to the hot springs takes about an hour and 20 minutes, partly over bumpy roads. Spend a wonderful afternoon as you wish, whether basking in the sun, chatting with locals at the small bar, or swimming – the choice is yours. Depart the hot springs in the late afternoon (just before sunset) and return relaxed to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Note: bring swimwear and towels.
