Olpopongi - Maasai Cultural Village & Museum - Starting from our One Bike Shop, the journey takes cyclists to the western side of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Riders will experience both smooth tarmac and rugged gravel roads, initially passing through Chagga villages, banana and coffee plantations, and lush green forests. As the route progresses westward, the landscape becomes more arid with open plains, home to the Maasai people, offering a distinct cultural and scenic change. Cyclists will encounter gentle inclines and declines, possibly crossing paths with various wildlife species. The day’s ride concludes in Ngabobo village, where accommodations are arranged for the night.
West Kilimanjaro – Arusha | 83 km
Mount Kilimanjaro - This segment is a lengthy ride, primarily on dusty roads, but without significant inclines. Cyclists will traverse the Ngasurai open plains, a migratory route for wildlife, particularly elephants from Amboseli National Park in Kenya. Upon reaching the main tarmac road to Arusha, the ride becomes more manageable. The route passes through several villages, offering stunning views of Mount Meru in the background. Overnight accommodations are provided at a lodge in Arusha.
Arusha – Tarangire National Park | 102 km
Tarangire National Park - This is the longest ride of the tour, yet less strenuous as it mostly follows an undulating tarmac road. Cyclists will pass through vibrant Tanzanian villages, rich in culture and picturesque daily life scenes. The route ends at the border of Tarangire National Park, known for having the largest concentration of elephants in Tanzania. Here, cyclists can relax and enjoy the Roika Tented Lodge, where they will stay overnight.
Tarangire National Park – Lake Manyara | 74 km
Lake Manyara - Today’s ride showcases some of the most stunning highlights of Tanzania’s northern circuit. Cyclists will pass through wildlife corridors between Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara, encounter several Maasai traditional settlements, and enjoy breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley. The ride follows a tarmac road until the final few kilometers of dirt road leading to Migombani Camp for the night.
Lake Manyara – Ngorongoro Crater | 43 km
Ngorongoro Crater - The final day of cycling is the most challenging but also the most rewarding. The first stop is the Lake Manyara National Park gate, followed by a climb up the steep Great Rift Valley escarpment. Along the way, there is a stop to admire the stunning view of Lake Manyara and its surroundings. The journey continues through the vibrant town of Karatu, concluding at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area gate. Cyclists will then be transferred to a lodge for a well-deserved rest and celebration of their successful challenge.
