Following a morning briefing and equipment check, the journey begins with a drive from Moshi or Arusha to the Machame Gate. The trail starts in a vibrant rainforest, offering glimpses of local flora and fauna. Arrive at Machame Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Trek from Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Shira Camp - Elevation: 2,835m to 3,850m
Distance: 5km
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
Climb out of the forest to a steeper ascent through the moorland. Cross several streams, enjoying breathtaking views of Mount Meru and the surrounding valleys. Camp at Shira Plateau under the stars.

Trek from Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Barranco Camp - Elevation: 3,850m to 4,000m
Distance: 10km/6mi
Walking Time: 5-6 hours

From the Shira Plateau, continue east up a ridge, passing the junction towards Kibo’s peak. The route then shifts southeast towards the Lava Tower, known as the “Shark’s Tooth” (elevation 4,650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower, reach the second junction leading to the Arrow Glacier. Continue down to Barranco Camp. Although the day ends at a similar elevation as it began, this day is crucial for acclimatization, aiding in preparation for summit day.

Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Barafu Camp to Summit then Descend to Mweka Camp

Uhuru Peak - Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m to 3,068m
Distance: 17km
Hiking Time: 11-14 hours
The most demanding day starts at midnight, with a climb to Stella Point at 5,756 meters, followed by a final trek to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa! After celebrating this accomplishment, descend to Mweka Camp for the final night on the mountain.
