- Te Puna - We ascend to the top of Minden Road, at an elevation of 300 meters, to capture a magnificent 270-degree view of the Pacific Ocean, Western Bay of Plenty coastline, Mt Maunganui, and your ship in the distance (afternoons are ideal for photography).
- Poripori Water Holes - We pass by this popular summer swimming spot for young people but do not stop. A few kilometers before, we travel down Crawford and Poripori Rd, traversing picturesque and typical New Zealand farmland, many of which are sheep farms, and some that cultivate the iconic and economically significant kiwifruit. We will stop at one orchard. You’ll be amazed at how they grow!
- Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park - On the way to Hobbiton, we stop just past the highest point (1700 feet) of the drive at a fresh natural spring where you can quench your thirst with cool water gushing from within the mountain range. We also pause at a lookout over the vast Waikato region, home to many farms that form the backbone of New Zealand’s economy - dairy farming.

Great day out - Fantastic - and I'm not a massive Lord of the Rings fan! So well organised and so well informed. Great to see inside the houses and have a drink at the green Dragon. Do it - you won't be disappointed!

Hobbiton Adventure - I would 100% recommend this tour.
Pick-up was at a set location. Easy to find.
Another group was added to our bus. I had thought it was just to be my group, but it still worked. The driver was very knowledgeable and kept a commentary going to Hobbiton. He drove us through some beautiful country side and pointed out locations of interest.
We were dropped off to join the Hobbiton bus. This was a large bus and we stayed together as a group while doing the Hobbiton site. We then meet up again with our driver at the Cafe.
As part of the tour we went to a waterfall, on our way back to the ship. Unfortunately the other group with us decided to take their time on this walk. This made us short on time to get back.
The driver did a Fantastic job in getting us through the heavy traffic to make the ship, just in time.

Hobbiton and other places - Toby, our driver and guide, other than at Hobbiton, was great - very personable and knowledgeable.
Hobbiton was fabulous! The attention detail was amazing and the landscaping wonderful!

Hobbiton and More - We had a great small group experience with Toby as our guide. There were several scenic stops along the way, a very entertaining experience at Hobbiton, a yummy lunch at a nearby pub and cafe at Toby’s suggestion, and a few quick stops on the way back to the ship. Our party of six considered it a very successful day.

Excellent shore excursion to Hobbiton - The journeys to and from the port and Hobbiton were great as Grant, the Arrow Tours driver/guide, was interesting and knowledgeable so we learned so much about the Bay of Plenty. The actual Hobbiton tour was also great as our set guide had a great sense of humour as well as in depth knowledge of the films and their production techniques! The set is well preserved and managed and it was just so great to see, touch and drink so many scenes and props. A great day all round and I would definitely recommend Arrow Tours for this excursion.

Amazing experience, tour, and tour guide!! - We had an amazing time with Toby from Arrow Tours as our guide! Hobbiton is a magical place and Toby made the experience even better. My family had a wonderful time and were all glowing afterwards! Strongly recommend this experience!

Hobbiton and more! - Hobbiton was wonderful but there was so much more to this tour! We were picked up from the cruise ship pier and had a city tour of Tauranga with a photo stop at the beach. We had a short, beautiful hike to McLaren Falls. Very picturesque. We had a lunch stop at a fun local pub where we had toasties and beer -- not a tourist spot. We stopped at a kiwi farm where the plants were loaded with fruit just days before the harvest. The scenery all along the way including Hobbiton was spectacular. Our guide Toby was excellent. An excellent day!

Missed out due to bad weather. - Didn't get to go on the tour because the ship could not dock in Tauranga due to weather. Viator gave us a partial refund but we still lost almost $600.
