Love this high quality... - Love this high quality historical place! Everyone was knowledgeable, helpful and kind! But… the shuttle service was an issue. Didn’t pick up where indicated near the 16-sided barn. Waited 30 minutes in the shade and had to call to get assistance. My mother is 89 so using the shuttle gave her access to all the exhibits. It was a hot humid day.

Seeing Mount Vernon is presidential! - We went to visit two of our grandsons in Ocean City, Maryland, in the summer of 2024 where they were working as lifeguards. We took the opportunity to see the American capital and its surroundings. Washington, that surname for anyone on Earth is connected to the great country of the United States. The Virginia plantation on the banks of the Potomac of the first American president with his wife Martha and her children is a mythical place. Since we had never been there, we could not miss this opportunity... It goes without saying that the site is maintained and arranged in such a way that the visit we live there is equal to the character who lived there with his own but also the good number of people who worked there, many of whom were slaves. The reception pavilion allows you to learn a little more about the president, his spouse and their relatives. There is the necessary information to make visiting the plantation interesting and enjoyable. We will have seen the couple’s beautiful mansion, the employees’ residences and their families, the various workshops, the fields and orchards, the large quay on the Potomac, the president’s burial site, his wife and their relatives and the slave cemetery. The trails are very well maintained as are the tracks. There is a free route of small buses to transport to the site. The employees of the complex are kind and very helpful. Really, this is one of the most inspiring and interesting visits we have made and all at a very acceptable price!

Beautiful place with lots of history, however, mansion currently is under renovation and most rooms are not accessible - Beautiful grounds, interesting history. However, most of the mansion is under renovation right now- I’d wait if possible until that’s finished. Still, museum and grounds are worth seeing. Onsite restaurant and snack area, helpful staff all around .

Tour Guides With Misplaced Priorities - It was what you expected, but the tour guides were purposely vague, and inserted a Civil Rights narrative about slavery, at every opportunity. When our guide said “this was one of the bedrooms”, I asked if that was the bedroom Washington died in. His response? “I wasn’t going to tell you all about that, but yes.” We’re here to learn about Washington, and his home; why wouldn’t you tell us that interesting fact, and others?! While slavery was terrible, we don’t want to hear about every slave, and the supposed oppression they endured, keeping his house in order. He was a man of his times, they were almost condemning him, for it.

Must-see place to visit... when the work is completed - Exciting place and very nice. Huge disappointment at not being warned that the house could not be visited because of the work

Overpriced, Underwhelming, and Disappointingly Politicised - Our visit to Mount Vernon was deeply disappointing. The mansion is undergoing renovation, only two rooms were accessible, yet full ticket prices were still charged with no clear warning in advance. The site felt more like a construction zone than a historic estate. What was more surprising, however, was the overwhelming emphasis not on George Washington’s role as a statesman, military leader, or first president - but almost entirely on his status as a slave owner. While it’s absolutely right to acknowledge the role of enslaved people in the estate’s history, the narrative felt one-sided and dominated the experience. At times, it seemed the focus was more on political messaging than balanced historical interpretation. For visitors hoping to connect with the life and legacy of General Washington, this visit may feel skewed and frustrating. The educational potential is there, but the current presentation felt more like a lecture than an exploration of a complex historical figure. Disappointing overall - especially for the price. I would recommend waiting until the renovations are complete and the interpretation becomes more balanced.

Holmes Tour - Only 2 rooms available for viewing. Renovation to be completed in November. We did see the wreath laying at George Washington's tomb. The Potomac River, movie and a virtual tour of the mansion. Haven't had time to look at it yet. Bought some souvenirs and had a light lunch at the food court.

Woke portrayal of George Washington’s estate - Terrible experience. I would consider it almost false advertising. Like most people, we went there to see George Washington’s estate and gain factual historical insight. Instead the tour was a woke lecture and highly politicized. Yet another national treasure that has undergone historical revisionism. My friend, who is local, went there 2 or 3 years ago and highly recommended Mount Vernon as a hidden gem in the DC area. Not sure what happened or changed.

Waste of time, waste of money - Do not go wait until they finish all of the renovations you hardly saw anything. It’s a waste of time disappointing.

Waste of money. Do not go! - We feel cheated. The house is under construction. Saw only one room that wasn't in the house. Paid full price. Ridiculous "tour" with WOKE lecture. Talking only about the "enslaved" help. They hardly mentioned General Washington. The politization of history is utterly disgusting.
