The site features structures from the Early Iron Age to the Late Middle Ages and showcases a unique blend of rock-cut cultures from Anatolia and Iran, alongside pagan and Christian architecture. The tour of the ruins is for those able to navigate challenging terrain, requiring sturdy footwear. It begins with steps, then involves scrambling over rocks and following an ancient path past grain pits to the remains of a 2nd or 3rd-century AD theater, complete with an orchestra pit.

Svetitskhoveli was not only the site of Georgian kings’ coronations but also served as their burial place.
