Setting Sail on a New Adventure

After leaving my finance job in Seoul to backpack through Southeast Asia, I’ve been on a quest to find the most budget-friendly yet exhilarating experiences. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm welcome and a light breakfast, which was a perfect start to the day. Our guide, Bao, was a charismatic character, providing us with a detailed orientation in multiple languages, ensuring everyone was on the same page.

Exploring the Islands

Our first stop was Monkey Beach, where the trees were alive with playful monkeys. It was a surreal experience watching them swing from branch to branch, their antics providing endless entertainment. We then headed to another island for snorkeling. The vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life were a sight to behold. Lunch was served on this island, and there were small shops where I picked up a trinket to remember the trip.

The adventure continued as we moved to another island, where swimming and snorkeling were on the agenda. For a small additional fee, I hopped on a long-tail boat, which was an exhilarating experience. The highlight, however, was Maya Bay. A short walk through the jungle led us to the iconic beach, made famous by the film “The Beach.” Although swimming was prohibited to protect the delicate ecosystem, the scenery was breathtaking.

The Thrill of the Ride

Our final stop was an island offering snacks, beverages, and optional jet skiing. The boat ride to this island was an adventure in itself. The choppy waters turned the journey into a thrilling amusement park ride, with everyone on board laughing and enjoying the bumpy ride. Bao’s humor and charm kept spirits high, and his instructions were clear and helpful.

As we returned to the mainland, we were treated to a delicious serving of Pad Thai before being shuttled back to our accommodations. Reflecting on the day, I realized that this trip was not just about the destinations but the journey itself. The camaraderie among fellow travelers, the laughter, and the shared experiences made it a day to remember. For those seeking adventure and a taste of paradise, the Phi Phi Island Escape is a must-do.
