The Elephanta Caves, situated on Elephanta Island close to Mumbai, India, are historic rock-cut temples. Originating from the 5th and 6th centuries AD, these caves exemplify the magnificence of Indian rock-cut architecture. Cave 1, the most renowned, features a spacious hall adorned with elaborate carvings of Hindu gods, mainly Shiva.
