Best experience - Probably one of my best experiences in India! My guide was Rakesh, he was extremely interesting, answering all my questions with a good sense of humour. Visiting Dharavi and discovering businesses and residential areas are something to do once in one’s life for sure!

Mumbai slum tour! - We did this tour today with four other people in our group. The tour guide was Rakesh . What a fabulous experience with a local guide who knew the slum and its ways very well. It’s really eye opening seeing the commercial side of Dharavi, and how industrious and resourceful the people are who work there. Watching the waste of Mumbai being recycled and providing employment for thousands of people. Amazing! Blown away by the residential area of the slum, passageways barely wider than shoulder width. The tour was brilliantly led by the knowledgeable and patient Rakesh who looked after us very well, and explained everything in immaculate English. We couldn’t have had a better guide. He also took us by train to the fascinating Dhobi Ghat an experience in itself. Total recommendation, brilliant tour .

Must do in Mumbai - I can highly recommend this tour. Our guide Faizan truly touched us with his stories and insights into Dharavi, offering us a comprehensive view of the working and living conditions there. Having grown up in Dharavi himself, he knows the area inside out and is well-connected with many of the locals we met along the way. After the slum tour, we took a short train ride (included in the price) to Dhobi Ghat, where we got an up-close look at the largest laundry and were greeted by friendly faces amidst the hustle and bustle. The experience with Faizan was more than fascinating. Even outside of the tour, he gave us valuable travel tips, so I can only highly recommend this tour.

Amazing insight to learn about the life of slum dwellers - I booked the tour online(27/01/25) and met the tour guide Faizan at the said meeting location. Faizan had a good command for English and he was easily understood. The tour included learning about how waste products get recycled in some shape or another; how they live in the huts making it their living and working space; We then took a short train ride ( which iOS included in the price) with the guide to the dhobi ghats. The dhobi ghat is a place where 1000’s and 1000’s of pieces of clothing come from hotels, businesses and households to get washed, dried and sent back amazingly without loss of items to the owner. We cannot come to really appreciate the way life is for these people but coming on this tour will make you appreciate it

The best guide - I joined alone, but there was another four of us: a tourgoer, a guide, and a guide apprentice. The tour guide was around 5-10 minutes before the meeting point and the time was accurate. The course of the tour and the guide's commentary were amazing. The guide explained in English about the lives of the Dharavislum people, how the slums were formed, and about Dawbi Ghat. It had a common Indian accent, but it was kind of easy to hear, and I was very grateful for the polite rephrases when I heard it back. I booked directly from the official website via WhatsApp a month or two ago, and they offered to discuss an optional tour (it was quick to respond), and when I asked, they sent me photos after the tour, and they were very responsive. I definitely want to use it when I go to Mumbai with my friends again!

Knowledge and Life in the Raw - Our tour was booked through GetYourGuide. Our guide, Bharti, spoke excellent English, had a good sense of humour, was very informative and protective, especially navigating the roads and the railway. She also invited us into her humble home for a rest and a drink of water. The tour itself was a very humbling experience, observing unimaginable living and working conditions as they truly exist in the slums of Mumbai - a living environment that no fellow human being should have to endure, day in, day out, for the equivalent of Euro 136 per month. It is a tour for the traveller, not the tourist, and for people who are really interested to learn about the communities in the places that they visit. We truly recommend it as a way to appreciate and be thankful for everything that we have! We were extremely impressed, however, by the fact that 85% of everything dumped here is recycled - unlike where we live when most is dumped in landfill or sold off to China. It is, however, a very labour intensive, work house environment - 12 hours a day!
