- Marienplatz - Marienplatz: The Heart of Munich. At the vibrant core of the city lies Marienplatz. This historic square has been Munich’s central hub for centuries, celebrated for its stunning New Town Hall with the iconic Glockenspiel and lively atmosphere. It’s the ideal starting point for exploring this remarkable city! This serves as our brief introduction before commencing the bike tour.
- Mike’s Bike Tours and Rentals - We make a quick stop here for guests to purchase water and ponchos and inform them of the location in case they wish to rent bikes after the tour.
- Platzl - The Platzl: Home of Munich’s Heartbeat. This charming, historic square is essentially the birthplace of Munich’s legendary beer culture! It’s famously home to the world-renowned Hofbräuhaus, and its cobblestone streets are lined with traditional Bavarian buildings. The Platzl perfectly captures the essence of old Munich, making it a lively and authentic stop.
- Hofgarten - We pause here to inform guests about the Bavarian State Chancellory and the Hofgarten.
- Residenz - The Residenz, a magnificent complex of buildings in Munich, was once the royal palace of the Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria. This expansive palace houses over 130 rooms, including the stunning Cuvilliés Theatre and the historic Hercules Hall.
The Residenz is a testament to Bavarian history and architectural splendor, offering visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the royal family. We ride through the Courtyards but do not enter. You can explore at your own leisure after the tour. Admission is then applicable.
- Max-Joseph-Platz - Here we explain the history of the Wittelsbach family and their role in putting Munich on the map.
- Odeonsplatz - We pause here to explain the history that unfolded over many centuries and also give our guests the opportunity to see the St. Kajetan Church from the inside.
- English Garden - The best way to see the second largest inner-city park in the world is by bicycle. Discover why the locals adore this park full of surprises.
- Chinesischen Turm - We stop for a traditional lunch under the Chinese Tower. This is a self-service food court that also offers vegetarian options so everyone can choose what they want. The price of lunch is not included in the tour price.
- Isar - We enjoy a scenic ride along the Isar - the reason many locals live here as this is our “Beach” in summer.
- Angel of Peace (Friedensengel) - We have a quick stop here on the far side of the Isar River before continuing along the river to the next stop.
- Isartor - We conclude our tour near this S-Bahn stop.
- Maximilianeum - The Maximilianeum, a grand Neo-Renaissance building, was commissioned by King Maximilian II of Bavaria in 1857. Designed by Friedrich Bürklein, it initially served as an educational institution for gifted students.
Situated on the banks of the Isar River, the Maximilianeum is a striking landmark on Maximilianstrasse, a renowned boulevard lined with Neo-Gothic palaces. We stop here for a quick photo opportunity.
Though construction was delayed, the building was eventually completed in 1874 and has since undergone renovations, particularly after World War II.
