Now, guests can anticipate an exciting, informative, and relaxing journey in the new and luxurious Mercedes or VW Minivans. With a friendly and professional tour guide by their side, guests are in excellent hands from the very beginning!
… At the historic pilgrimage church of St. Maria Ramersdorf, dating back to the 14th century, the tour departs Munich and heads southeast on the A8 highway…
- Wildenwart Castle - Nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Alps, just a few kilometers from Lake Chiemsee, lies the historic Wildenwart Castle ensemble. Following the rise of the revolutionary government, the Bavarian royal family, including Ludwig III, gathered at Wildenwart Castle, which became the new residence for the Wittelsbach family. In 1979, Max Herzog in Bavaria, the great-grandson of Ludwig III, moved into the castle with his family, which can be admired from the outside.
-
Prien am Chiemsee - In Prien, guests board a Chiemsee fleet boat, which transports them across the lake to Herreninsel island (ticket not included in the tour price, cash payment only). Beforehand, it’s worth visiting the Gothic-Baroque parish church Maria Himmelfahrt, whose church tower famously “went crazy” in the 18th century!
* Chiemsee ferry prices (2025): Adults: € 13.00 / Children 6 - 15 years € 6.50 *
With the world’s oldest functioning steam tram, guests can enjoy a leisurely ride from the town center to the harbor in summer, just as it was over 135 years ago. -
Herrenchiemsee Palace - Herrenchiemsee Palace was intended to be a replica of the Palace of Versailles, the residence of the French “Sun King” Louis XIV. However, due to financial constraints, the most magnificent and costly castle of Bavarian King Ludwig II was left incomplete. A 35-minute guided tour, which is highly recommended, allows visitors to explore all completed and some unfinished rooms. * Skip-the-Line Admission (2025) Adults € 11.00 / Children under 18 years are free *
The admission ticket also provides free access to the “Old Castle,” a former monastery building from the 8th century with stunning Baroque interiors. Visitors will also see intriguing rooms where Ludwig resided during the castle’s construction, as well as the site of the 1948 Constitutional Convention. Within the historic complex, a restaurant offers fresh Chiemsee fish and a beer garden with a spectacular view over Lake Chiemsee and its other islands. - Fraueninsel in Chiemsee - The tour continues by boat to the 15.5-hectare “large” island Fraueninsel. A knowledgeable guide will gladly accompany guests on a 30-minute island tour, showcasing and explaining all noteworthy sights, including the over 1000-year-old monastery church, the equally ancient ‘Tassilo’ lime tree, and the historic gate hall. The “Inselbräu” microbrewery is perfect for a culinary break, along with the island fishermen’s numerous stalls.
- Gstadt am Chiemsee - Back on the mainland, guests can enjoy the most stunning view over the lake with the Alps in the background from the Malerwinkel in Gstadt. Before that, the team will be delighted to show the spot where King Ludwig II crossed to “his” island on a natural beach. Did you know a private station was specially built for him on the Munich - Salzburg railway line? The team will show it to you!
- The Eagle’s Nest - OPTIONAL (only available with the 11-hour tour “XXL-Time credit”): The Eagle’s Nest is accessible from May to October via special buses from the Obersalzberg plateau near Berchtesgaden (depending on snow conditions). The building, perched spectacularly at over 1,800 m (5,900 ft) above sea level, was constructed - including the 6.5 km access road - in just 13 months under challenging conditions for the workers, at the behest of Martin Bormann. From the bus terminus, guests can reach the original elevator through a 124-meter-long tunnel, which takes them to the ‘Kehlsteinhaus’, now a restaurant, after another 124 meters.
Skip-the-Line Admission Eagle’s Nest (2025 - bus ride incl. lift):
Adults € 31.90 /
Children 6 to 14 years: € 16.50 * Please note that as part of the “11 hours” option, guests can EITHER combine Lake Chiemsee with the Eagle’s Nest OR with Salzburg.
-
Salzburg - OPTIONAL (only available with the 11-hour tour “XXL-Time credit”):
Whatever the reason for interest in Salzburg’s rich history, this vibrant city will captivate guests with its charming squares and cultural abundance, combined with Salzburg hospitality. Based on preferences, the guide will lead a walking tour showcasing all historical or popular highlights of Mozart’s city, such as Mozart’s birthplace, Mirabell Palace with its splendid garden, the Getreidegasse with its excellent shopping, and many locations where the film “Sound of Music” was shot, including the pavilion (“Gazebo”) in Hellbrunn Palace Park with its fantastic trick fountains! * Please note that as part of the “11-hours” option, guests can EITHER combine Lake Chiemsee with the Eagle’s Nest OR with Salzburg. - Upper Bavaria - Between attractions and during trips to and from the hotel, guests will enjoy the journey in luxurious minivans with a panoramic glass roof, full leather upholstery, and all conceivable safety features, while receiving fascinating information from the friendly and professional tour guide.

The most remarkable of all is the grandest and costliest castle - Herrenchiemsee, built by the peculiar storybook King Ludwig II, and a quaint community of 300 residents on the minuscule Fraueninsel. Numerous insider tips await you both here and on the mainland, promising to make this outing - complemented by the journey in our fresh, high-end, and cosy Mercedes or VW Minivans - a truly unique pleasure.
Our distinctive proposition also includes the prospect of meshing the must-sees of Lake Chiemsee with a guided exploration in SALZBURG or a journey to the EAGLE’S NEST (an 11-hour extension).
