• Irschenberg - Soon, we arrive at ‘Mount Irschenberg’, offering the most stunning viewpoint from a German motorway. This route, constructed in the mid-1930s as a “panoramic motorway”, was part of the National Socialist propaganda, showcasing the landscape’s beauty as a staged “German Homeland”.
• Lake Chiemsee - Shortly after another breathtaking view, we reach Bavaria’s largest lake, Lake Chiemsee. Near the beach is Germany’s first motorway rest area from 1937/38, which post-WWII was used by the US Army as one of three recreation centers (“AFRC Lake Hotel”) until 2003. An abandoned boat dock still recalls this era.
  We soon leave the motorway and travel along the “German Alpine Road”, arguably the most beautiful mountain road in the northern Alpine region.
• St. Bartholomew’s Church - No road or hiking trail encircles the 8 km (5 mile) long Lake Königssee, surrounded by towering rock walls. The popular destination on the west bank, the peninsula with the renowned pilgrimage chapel St. Bartholomä and the former hunting lodge with “The world’s most idyllic” beer garden, is accessible only by historic electric boats gliding silently along.

• Konigssee - Amidst stunning alpine scenery and near the Königssee Ice bobsleigh track, the popular pedestrian zone in the village of Königssee and along the waterfront offers affordable shopping and excellent photo opportunities.
• Berchtesgaden - First documented in the early 12th century, the former monastery foundation ‘Berthercatmen’ thrived economically due to free mining of salt and metal.
  Today, the market town nestled in the magnificent Berchtesgaden Alpine world is one of Germany’s most popular holiday regions, rich in attractions!
  Enjoy the traffic-restricted historic town center with its beautifully painted houses and numerous shopping options. The local brewery “Hofbrauhaus Berchtesgaden” is a perfect spot for a break.
  You will also see the surprisingly large central station (opened on 1 February 1940) and the tunnel portal of the planned new railway line to Salzburg. Also from this period are the “Little Reich Chancellery”, and the residences of Wilhelm Keitel and Alfred Jodl.
• The Eagle’s Nest - The EAGLE’S NEST (“Kehlsteinhaus”) is accessible from early May to late October (depending on snow conditions on the access road) via special shuttle buses from the Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden.

Perched spectacularly at 6,017 ft above sea level, the former Nazi representation building survived the British air raid on 25 April 1945 unscathed. Commissioned by Martin Bormann, it was constructed - including the 6.5 km long access road - in just 13 months under challenging conditions for the workers. From the bus terminus, you can reach the original elevator through a 124-meter-long tunnel, which takes you another 124 meters (406 ft) to the ‘Kehlsteinhaus’, now a restaurant. A small exhibition reminds us of the inhumane Nazi dictatorship of the 3rd Reich.

• Obersalzberg - The darkest chapter of Berchtesgaden’s history unfolded on the Obersalzberg, known as “Hitler’s Alpine Fortress”. This plateau below the ‘Eagle’s Nest’ at an altitude of 1,000 m (3,200 ft) was largely seized by Hitler and his entourage, and declared as “Führersperrgebiet” (‘Leader’s restricted area’) from 1933.

On April 25, 1945, about 1,300 bombs destroyed nearly the entire area, sparing only the “Eagle’s Nest” (‘Kehlsteinhaus’) among other buildings.

In 1952, the ruins of most bombed-out buildings were demolished or blown up, some rebuilt, such as the Hotel Türken.

Your guide, with historical pictures, will gladly show you what remains (locations of Hermann Göring’s and Martin Bormann’s houses as well as Hitler’s ‘Berghof’ and the General Walker Hotel, the coal bunker, Albert Speer’s house and studio, and more)

• Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg - (ON REQUEST: If you wish to visit the Obersalzberg documentation, please indicate under “Special Requirements” when booking, as depending on your stay’s duration (see recommendations at the end of this text), there will be less time for other attractions. This allows us to plan your itinerary optimally!) * Learn more about the 12-year Nazi reign of terror in Berchtesgaden through display boards (in English) and film excerpts. Visit part of the extensive underground bunkers, the entrance to which is included in the admission price of € 3.00 per adult, as well as audio guides in several languages. * Time required if you only want to visit the bunkers: at least 30 minutes / time required if you want to visit the bunkers and the rest of the exhibition: at least 60 - 90 minutes *
• Rossfeld Panoramastrasse - (ON REQUEST):
  Construction of this special panoramic road began in 1938 and was completed in 1955. At an altitude of 1,600 m (5,250 ft), you can cross the Austrian border on foot. Cozy mountain inns await you with regional and international specialties, including spectacular views!

The final scene of the world-famous SOUND OF MUSIC movie was filmed here in 1964.

• Berchtesgaden Salt Mines - (ON REQUEST): Enjoy an over 1-hour tour in Germany’s oldest active salt mine. You will take a mine railway to the salt fields inside the Obersalzberg mountain. On spectacular slides, you reach deeper levels, and on a raft, you glide over the mysterious “Spiegelsee” (“Mirror Lake”). Learn from your miner guide how the “white gold” has been mined here since 1517 - a fascinating experience for all ages!
