During this time, visitors can travel along well-maintained winter roads to secluded spots, where they can admire frosted trees glistening in the Arctic sunlight or watch the mesmerizing aurora borealis illuminate the sky.

• Akaslompolo - Between December and April, Äkäslompolo becomes a winter wonderland, with snow-laden branches forming natural archways and the polar night enveloping everything in a mystical blue hue. The village is the gateway to over 330 kilometers of pristine cross-country ski trails and numerous winter walking paths, each leading to hidden gems in the surrounding wilderness.
  Here, modern life slows to the gentle rhythm of the Arctic seasons. Visitors might see a herd of reindeer grazing by the frozen Lake Äkäslompolo, their breath forming delicate clouds in the crisp air, or hear the soft glide of cross-country skiers on freshly groomed trails. As night falls - early and completely during the kaamos period - the village becomes an ideal setting for nature’s most spectacular light show, with the aurora borealis often dancing across the clear Arctic sky.
