Gliding Through History: Our Family’s Segway Adventure in Myrtle Beach

Looking for a unique family adventure in Myrtle Beach? Join me as I recount our thrilling experience on the Huntington Beach Segway Tour, where history and wildlife come alive in a fun-filled journey.

A Segway Adventure to Remember

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can bring families closer together while exploring the wonders of the world. So, when I heard about the Huntington Beach Segway Tour in Murrells Inlet, I knew it was something my family and I had to try. We were in Myrtle Beach for a week, and while the Boardwalk, beach, and pool were delightful, we craved something different. This Segway tour promised a blend of history, wildlife, and adventure, and it did not disappoint.

We booked our tour for a bright and early Saturday morning. As we arrived at the park, we were greeted by Bob, our enthusiastic guide for the day. None of us had ever been on a Segway before, but Bob’s patient instructions soon had us gliding around the parking lot with ease. My husband and I, along with our two kids, ages 12 and 15, were ready to embark on this two-hour journey through the beautiful Huntington Beach State Park.

History and Wildlife Unveiled

The tour began with a fascinating history lesson about the park. Bob shared stories about Anna Hyatt and Archer Huntington, the philanthropists who once called this place their winter home. Their legacy lives on in the park and the adjacent Brookgreen Gardens, and it was captivating to learn about their lives and contributions.

As we glided along the paths, we were treated to the sights and sounds of the park’s diverse wildlife. We stopped at several points to admire the beauty around us, and at one memorable moment, a five-foot alligator casually crossed our path. It was thrilling and a bit nerve-wracking, but Bob assured us it was all part of the adventure. He even took pictures and videos of us on our Segways, capturing these unforgettable moments.

A Day Well Spent

The two hours flew by, and before we knew it, the tour was over. But the fun didn’t have to end there. With our park admission, we had the rest of the day to enjoy the beach and explore more of the park. It was a perfect way to unwind after the excitement of the tour.

One thing to note for future adventurers: besides the tour fee, there’s a separate park admission fee, which was $24 for our family. It’s a small price to pay for a day filled with exploration and relaxation. This Segway tour was a highlight of our trip, and I can’t recommend it enough to families visiting Myrtle Beach. It’s a unique way to experience the area’s natural beauty and history, and it’s sure to create lasting memories for everyone involved.
