Muscat-Sinkhole-Fins Beach-Wadi Shab-Sur-Ras Al Hadd
Bimmah Sinkhole - The tour begins in Muscat in the morning, heading towards Ras Al Hadd. The first stop is Bimmah Sinkhole, a water-filled depression in the limestone of eastern Muscat Governorate, Oman. This turquoise lake, measuring 50 m by 70 m and approximately 20 m deep, is located 600 m from the sea, between Dibab and Bimmah Village. Formed by the collapse of the surface layer due to limestone dissolution, the local municipality has developed a park to preserve it. Swimming is possible here.
Fins Beach - After the Sinkhole, the tour stops at Fins Beach, also known as White Sands Beach. This location offers a stunning panorama of white sands and a pebbly beach, with sparkling turquoise waters and a refreshing breeze.
Wadi Shab - From Fins Beach, the journey continues to Wadi Shab, a vast canyon gorge lined with palm trees. A 45-minute hike through the canyon (walking shoes recommended) leads to crystal-clear water pools where visitors can swim. The final pool features an opening among large rocks, allowing a swim into a crevice cave with a small waterfall, where sunlight transforms the water into a beautiful turquoise blue.
Sur - The tour then proceeds to the city of Sur, home to the famous Arabian Dhow Factory, where traditional wooden Dhows are built. Visitors can explore the old part of Sur, where many houses feature wooden doors and windows.
Al Hadd - The journey continues to Ras Al Hadd, with a hotel/resort check-in in the evening. After a buffet dinner, guests visit the turtle sanctuary at Ras Al Jinz for a guided night tour on the beach, with a high chance of witnessing Oman’s sea turtles nesting and laying eggs. Lucky visitors may even see baby turtles hatching.
Ras Al Hadd-Wadi Bani Khalid-Wahiba Sands
Wadi Bani Khalid - The morning begins with a trip to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s largest and most beautiful wadis. A short 10 to 15-minute walk reveals sparkling, clear water pools 9 meters deep, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing in the scenic wadi canyons.
Wahiba Sands - In the afternoon, the tour continues to the Wahiba Sands desert camp. This spectacular desert, also known as Al Sharqiya Sands, covers 12,500 square kilometers and is named after the Bani Wahiba tribe. The area spans 180 km north to south and 80 km east to west. Guests can relax at the camp or enjoy an adventurous 4×4 drive in the dunes with an experienced guide, followed by a stunning desert sunset view from a large dune. The day concludes with dinner at the camp.
Wahiba Sands-Al Mudhaireb-Ibra-Zukait Tower Tombs-Birkat Al Moz-Nizwa
Ibra - The journey continues to Ibra, where visitors can explore the old part of the village, nearly 1000 years old, built from mud and limestone. Some residents still live there.
Zukait Tombs - Near Nizwa, in the village of Zukait, the tour stops at cylindrical tombs dating back to the third millennium BC. These beehive-shaped tombs, made of mountain rock, are located on a hilltop in the Al Dakhiliyah region.
Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - The tour proceeds to Birkat Al Moz, featuring a large Falaj system that irrigates date palms and vegetables. Listed by UNESCO, it’s worth exploring the old part of the village.
Nizwa - The journey continues to Nizwa, Oman’s old capital city, arriving in the late afternoon. After hotel check-in, guests have free leisure time for the rest of the day.
Nizwa Market (SOUQ) & Fort-Misfat Al Abrieyeen-Al Hamra-Jabal Shams (Grand Canyon)
Nizwa Souk - The day starts early with a visit to Nizwa Market (Souq), where a variety of vendors sell goods such as vegetables, dates, pottery, jewelry, handicrafts, Omani sweets (Halawa), spices, and souvenirs in authentic old market halls. The Friday cattle market is particularly interesting, with locals selling goats, cattle, sheep, and chickens in a lively open marketplace.
Nizwa Fort Oman - Adjacent to the Souq is Nizwa Fortress, now a museum offering splendid views of the ancient town and surrounding mountains. Visitors can explore its many rooms, passages, and towers. The fort, an architectural testament to the early Yoruba dynasty’s economic and military achievements, was designed to withstand strong attacks, with traps laid along corridors to deter intruders.
Misfat al Abreyeen - From Nizwa, the tour heads to Misfat Al Abreyeen, a picturesque village on a steep slope at the foot of Jebel Shams. It features old homes, narrow streets, and a falaj system for orchards, date palms, and vegetables. It’s worth spending time exploring the village.
Jabal Shams - The tour then visits the ancient village of Al Hamra before driving up to Jebel Shams Mountain (Grand Canyon). This adventurous mountain road leads to Jebel Shams, 3009 meters high, offering an exciting off-road experience and fantastic views. At the 2000-meter canyon view, guests can enjoy the scenery and take photos before a short drive to the resort for an overnight stay.
Jabal Shams-Balad Sayt-Snake Canyon-Wadi Bani Awf-Nakhal Fort-Muscat
Bilad Sayt - In the morning, the tour descends the mountain on the east side into Wadi Bani Awf. This exciting off-road drive offers fantastic views of dramatic canyons and wadis, passing several villages, including the beautiful Balad Sayt, surrounded by mountains. Upon reaching Wadi Bani Awf, the tour passes impressive wadi canyons, including Snake Canyon, and numerous small villages.
Nakhal Fort - The journey continues to Nakhal, where visitors can explore the beautiful Nakhal Fortress. Situated at the mountain foothills in a town with extensive date palm plantations, this 1500-year-old fortress rises from the mountain rock, towering above the ancient village. It has witnessed many battles and is filled with hidden escape routes and secret passages. Visitors can explore the restored fortress and its rooms, decorated in the original old style. The view from the top over the mountains and green date plantations is outstanding.
