Nagarjun Hill is situated in the northwest of the Kathmandu Valley and is part of the Shivapuri National Park, accessible with just a 15-minute drive from Thamel, Kathmandu. Locally known as Jama Cho, this hill is home to the renowned Buddhist shrine of Padmasambhava, located at its summit. Standing at an elevation of 2,128 meters above sea level, the view tower offers breathtaking vistas of Ganesh Himal, Gaurisankar, Manaslu, Dorje Lakpa, and many other Himalayan ranges. The view of the Kathmandu Valley is equally stunning. The hike typically takes around 5 hours, starting and ending at Phulbari Gate, near the Balaju Bypass.
Additionally, the Nagarjun Forest is home to numerous caves, with two being particularly famous. One cave is located within the Raniban Forest, while the other is situated outside the gate on the Balaju-Trisuli Road. The cave within the Raniban Forest is believed to have been created by Nagarjuna for worshiping Swayambhunath, where he placed an image of Akshobhya Buddha.
