This preservation has earned Takayama the nickname ‘Little Kyoto of Hida.’ Visitors can explore the ‘Sanmachi’ (three historic districts) established during the Meiji and Taisho periods, enjoy local delicacies like Hida beef and Takayama ramen, and appreciate traditional crafts that highlight the remarkable skills of Hida artisans. Every part of Hida-Takayama is brimming with allure.”

- 白川鄉合掌村 - “Encircled by mountains and interwoven with rice paddies and gentle streams, Shirakawa-go is celebrated as the ‘Kingdom of Forests and Streams.’ Among the three villages designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites (Shirakawa-go, Ainokura in Gokayama, and Suganuma), the Ogimachi district in Shirakawa-go boasts the largest number of households, totaling 152. The name ‘Shirakawa-go’ (White River Village) is derived from the Ōshirakawa River, which descends from the sacred peak of Mount Haku and turns a milky white when it merges with the Shō River. Located in the northeastern part of the Ogimachi Gassho-zukuri village, Shiroyama Observatory provides a sweeping view of the village and the expansive Mount Hakusan range.”
