Nairobi- Mt Kenya Naro-Moru Gate- Met Station Camp. Elevation 2000-2500-3050m Travel Time 10km 3-4hrs
Mount Kenya National Park - Today, all guides and porters will gather in Naro Moru to load the vehicle(s) for a brief 15-kilometer journey to the Naro Moru gate of Mount Kenya National Park. Clients will meet the crew at the gate. Baboons and bushbuck are often seen roaming the area as we sign in, and then we proceed along the vehicle track through bamboo and hardwood forests.
We will pause for a picnic lunch at a suitable spot before continuing to our first camp at Met Station, situated near the forest’s edge, where buffalo frequently graze overnight.

Day 2: Met Station to Mackinder’s Elevation 3050-4300m Travel Time 10km 5hrs
Mount Kenya National Park - From Met Station, we follow the vehicle track a bit further before turning onto a footpath through the Hygenia forest and then out onto the more open heathland. From here, there is a fantastic view over the treetops and down to the plains beyond. The heath and moorland continue, featuring Giant Cabbage Groundsel and Giant Lobelia Deckenii as we ascend past the dramatically named ‘Vertical Bog’ to the outcrop known as picnic rocks, where we will have lunch. After lunch, we continue on the moorland before joining the edge of the Teleki Valley, winding between Giant Tree Groundsel and Ostrich Plume Lobelia, and then onto grasses in the valley floor as we cross a river and follow it gently to our next camp at Mackinder’s Camp site, on a moraine outcrop.

We continue past Nanyuki Tarn towards the Eastern Terminal and onto a slotted pass at Arthur’s Seat before descending to Oblong and Hausberg Tarns. We ascend to Hausberg col, then descend past Kami Tarn to Shipton’s Camp (4,200 m).

Day 4: Shipton’s Camp- Lenana Peak- Lake Ellies. Elevation 4200-4985-3500m Travel Time 18kms 11- 13hrs
Mount Kenya National Park - This morning, we will rise just after 2:00 AM to prepare for our nighttime ascent to Point Lenana. We will skirt the rocky outcrop above the camp, cross a flat area, and join the screen. Passing the bowl of Harris Tarn, we skirt above it, cross an area of bare rock, and make a small scramble. If ahead of schedule, there is a small niche or cave for a rest. It is then less than half an hour to the bare summit for sunrise.
The sun rises around 6:00 AM, and we will enjoy its warmth and the spectacular view before descending and retracing our ascent route to Hall Tarns for breakfast (Mintos Hut). After taking in the amazing views of the Temple cliffs and Lake Michaelson, we will continue further down the mountain to camp at Lake Ellis.

Day 5: Lake Ellies-Chogoria Gate- Nairobi. Elevation 3500-1800m 8km(2.5hrs)
Mount Kenya National Park - This morning, we set off downhill again. The path can be quite indistinct at first on this less-used trail, but we generally follow the line of a watercourse until we reach the 44 track that leads us to the forest boundary. Here, we have the option of heading straight down to Meru bandas (cabins) or taking a diversion to the beautiful Nithi Falls. Back at the bandas, or just beyond them, we’ll meet our 44 vehicles for the drive back through the forest to Chogoria town before continuing to Nairobi.
