From Nairobi City to the Land of the Big Five (Masai Mara National Reserve)
Maasai Mara National Reserve - The Masai Mara is globally acclaimed for its rich wildlife, providing some of the finest game viewing experiences in Africa. Visitors can anticipate encountering the iconic Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino — along with cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species such as impalas, gazelles, and topis. From July to October, the reserve hosts the Great Wildebeest Migration, where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles traverse the plains and brave the crocodile-infested Mara River.
The Mara is also a haven for bird enthusiasts, with over 450 species recorded. Visitors can spot vibrant lilac-breasted rollers, ostriches, vultures, crowned cranes, secretary birds, and various raptors soaring above. Whether it’s the roar of a lion at dawn, the sight of elephants gracefully moving across the savannah, or the vivid flash of a bird in flight, the Masai Mara promises an unforgettable safari teeming with life at every turn.
Great Rift Valley - Relish the view at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, where you can see major attractions such as Mt Longonot and the escarpments. This is the largest valley in the world.
Ultimate Full Day Adventure in the Savannah of Masai Mara
Maasai Mara National Reserve - Full-day game drive at Masai Mara from 0700hrs to 1700hrs
This day is dedicated to exploring Kenya’s premier wildlife park in search of Africa’s Big Five, including African elephants, lions, leopards, Cape buffalos, and rhinoceros. Expected sightings in Mara include giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impalas, wildebeest, zebras, and hippos. Lions are often seen basking after a hearty meal, while cheetahs and leopards, though more elusive, are fairly common.
A picnic lunch box will be provided by the hotel, and after the game drive, the driver will return to the hotel for dinner.
Maasai Mara National Reserve - The Mara River is a thrilling spot in Masai Mara, offering travelers a great opportunity to observe water animals like hippos, crocodiles, and water birds.
The Musiara Swamp, located near the Mara River, is an excellent spot for game watching, featuring a variety of animals such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalos, and birds.
The Eluai Plain is known for its vast wilderness and scattered trees, offering stunning views for miles and sightings of numerous animals.
The Unfenced Masai Mara and Serengeti Border is a transborder connecting Tanzania and Kenya. The unfenced border allows animals to move freely between Masai Mara and Serengeti, although visitors cannot cross the border.
Depart Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru National Park (The Pink Lake)
Masai Mara National Reserve - Maasai village and cultural tour
The Maasai community offers one of the most engaging and lively activities that should not be missed while at Masai Mara, including their dancing stanzas and cultural activities like ornament making.
Later, proceed to Nairobi with a stopover at Narok for a hot lunch. The expected arrival time in Nairobi is by 1600hrs, with drop-off at the Nairobi hotel or airport.
Lake Nakuru National Park - The park is one of the top-visited destinations in Kenya, where you’ll almost certainly see rhinos (both black and white), rare tree-climbing lions, and endangered Rothschild’s giraffes. Other animals found in the park include leopards, cheetahs, waterbuck, hyenas, buffalo, baboons, vervet monkeys, and gazelles.
The park is known as a bird lover’s paradise due to the numerous birds (over 400 bird species) including Egyptian geese, pelicans, fish eagles, etc.
The park is a haven of beautiful nature that includes the famous Makalia Falls, which is spectacular for viewing, just watching the water cascade from the cliff.
From Lake Nakuru National Park to the City
Lake Naivasha - Lake Naivasha is one of Africa’s most renowned freshwater lakes, and a boat safari ride here allows you to spot hippos and numerous bird species including kingfishers, fish eagles, herons, jacanas, and more. The lake itself is remarkably picturesque, set against a purple backdrop of the Eburru volcanic mountain range and lined by thick yellow-barked Acacia Xanthophlea trees. In terms of wildlife, the lake is home to over a thousand protected hippos, and the shores of the lake also host small numbers of giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, and the occasional eland and wildebeest. A Lake Naivasha boat ride is therefore an exciting yet relaxing lake safari experience with plenty of interesting sights to enjoy.
Crescent Island Game Park - A small paradise in the middle of Lake Naivasha. The island is situated on the eastern side of Lake Naivasha and forms part of the rim of an extinct volcano protruding out of the lake. With panoramic views from the top of the hill to open plains and thickets of trees by the shores, this island truly showcases nature at its best. (The island has alternated between being an island and a peninsula over the years, depending on the lake levels.)
