Nairobi National Park offers a unique ecosystem as it is the only protected area globally situated near a capital city. Located just 7 km from the center of Nairobi, the park features a savannah ecosystem with diverse vegetation. Predominantly, it consists of open grass plains dotted with acacia bushes. The western region boasts a highland dry forest and a permanent river lined with a riverine forest. To the south lie the Athi-Kapiti Plains and Kitengela migration corridor, crucial for wildlife dispersal during the rainy season. Additionally, man-made dams within the park create habitats that are ideal for certain bird species and other aquatic life forms.

The park’s major wildlife attractions include the Black rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, buffaloes, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, elands, and a rich birdlife with over 400 species recorded. Other notable attractions are the Ivory Burning Site Monument, Nairobi Safari Walk, the Orphanage, and the walking trails at Hippo Pools.
