Samburu boasts stunning landscapes within the park and is renowned for the vibrant culture of the Samburu people and their fascinating way of life. This park is uniquely located along the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River and is famous for the “Special Five,” which are rarely found in other parks: the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk antelope, and Somali ostrich. It is also home to nearly 900 elephants. Large predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs are major attractions (Kamunyak, the famous lioness who adopted a baby oryx, resides in the reserve). The reserve is indeed one of the best places in Kenya to spot leopards. Wild dog sightings are also a frequent draw to this unique protected area, and birdlife is abundant with over 450 recorded species.
This is the most tranquil and least crowded park, making it an excellent destination for unique game drives and observing diverse animal species.
