Machame Gate - Mount Kilimanjaro - Travel from your Moshi hotel to Machame Gate, passing through the village of Machame on the lower mountain slopes. After leaving the park gate, you’ll trek through dense rainforest on a winding trail up a ridge until reaching Machame Camp at an elevation of 9,350 feet.

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Shira Camp Two - Depart the rainforest glades and continue on an ascending path up a steep, rocky ridge. The trek takes you through heather and open moorlands on the Shira Plateau, then across a large river gorge before arriving at Shira 2 Camp at 12,500 feet elevation.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

Barranco Camp - Continue east up a ridge, then head southeast towards the Lava Tower, a 300-foot tall volcanic rock formation. Descend through the Senecio Forest to Barranco Camp at 13,000 feet. The day begins and ends at the same elevation, but the higher altitude acclimatization time aids your body’s adjustment.

Barranco Wall - Begin by descending into a ravine to the base of the Great Barranco Wall, then climb the steep 900-foot cliff. From the top, cross a series of hills and valleys before descending sharply into Karanga Valley. One more steep climb leads to Karanga Camp. Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Mweka Gate - The final summit push begins very early at midnight. Trek through the night, passing Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers to reach Uhuru Peak at 5,896 meters, the highest point in Africa. After relaxing and watching the sunrise, begin descending to Mweka Hut, where you’ll spend the night recovering from your summit achievement.
