- Namib Desert - Journeying from Swakopmund to the Spitzkoppe Mountain, travelers will traverse the world’s oldest desert, the Namib Desert. The tour guide will pause along the way to discuss the Namib Desert’s origins, as well as the geological and climatic features of this coastal desert. As the Spitzkoppe Mountain comes into view, the guide will stop at stalls where locals sell semi-precious stones. Visitors can choose from Aquamarine, Topaz, Amethyst, Feldspar, and many other semi-precious stones.
- Spitzkoppe - Explore the Spitzkoppe, often referred to as the Matterhorn of Africa. This “Inselberg” is a granite formation that rises 780 meters above the surrounding Namib Desert, with a total elevation of 1728 meters above sea level. After entering the Spitzkoppe Park, the tour guide will drive around the mountain, showcasing stunning rock formations such as the “Rock Pool” and the “Rock Arch.” The lush vegetation at Spitzkoppe offers a chance to study the flora of the Namib Desert, including Vachellia (Acacia) species, “Kobas” (the Butter tree), milk bush, Commiphora species, “Beesklou,” and Cleome species. Various bird species can also be observed, such as the Pale-winged Starling, swallows, and different weaver birds. Following a relaxing lunch break, the guide will present some fascinating bushman paintings. The journey then concludes with a return trip to Swakopmund.
