Over the last 1200 years, nearly 3,000 stone lanterns have been contributed, adorning the shrine’s pathways and grounds. Situated next to Nara Park, the shrine provides a special chance for visitors to interact with and feed the numerous deer that wander freely within its grounds.
- Nara Park - According to legend, in the 7th century, a deity descended on the mountain behind Kasuga Taisha, riding a deer. As a result, deer have been esteemed as sacred messengers in Nara since ancient times. Presently, around 1,300 deer reside in Nara Park, cherished by tourists from across the globe. The chance to observe these deer closely and capture photos makes Nara Park a favored spot for families and individuals of all ages.
- Wazuka-cho - For 800 years, this valley, encircled by mountains and crossed by a river, has been the heart of Uji tea production, a cornerstone of Japan’s tea-making tradition. It is a place rich in nature, yet remains largely undiscovered by most visitors to Japan.
