The Gold Standard for Fuji Sunrise Tours (Worth the Premium!) - The Experience: Forget the 40-person tour buses, or even staying near Mt Fuji. This is a fully customizable(not just the listed itinerary, you can ask for your own stops), small-group experience that is far superior to staying overnight in Fujiyoshida (which I did spending 2 nights there back in Sept) By doing this as a day trip from Tokyo, you get the best of both worlds: Tokyo’s superior dining and hotels, but with a front-row seat to a Fuji sunrise. I spent 3 hours hitting my specific bucket-list photo spots and were back in Tokyo in time for an afternoon nap in time to hit up some bucket list bars as they opened. Couple of things to note: • Timing: I highly recommend requesting pickup at least 3 hours before sunrise. It’s a 2-2.5 hour drive, and you want that crucial 45-minute window before the sun pops to set up and watch the color transition. • Communication: Don’t be alarmed if communication is slow 2-3 weeks out. It gets much more responsive as your date approaches, and everything was easily finalized via a WhatsApp group the day before. • The Guide: Ask for Mael. He’s a super friendly French guy who is fluent in English and a photographer himself—he knows exactly how to guide you to the best shots. • The Car: There is a JDM sports car upgrade, but unless you’re a die-hard car enthusiast, the standard car is fine. I napped most of the way there and a bit on the way back so save the JDM upgrade for one of their car meet tours. Verdict: If you can afford the small premium over a crowded bus tour, do it. You beat every crowd(less people who stayed overnight but that group tends to be very small), skip the hassle of renting a car, and get better views than most people who visit during regular business hours. Hands down one of the best tours I’ve booked in Japan!
