A Breezy Start to a Segway Adventure

The sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over Nassau as I made my way to the meeting point for the Nassau Segway Tour. The anticipation of gliding along the historic paths of Fort Charlotte on an Eco-glide was enough to get my adrenaline pumping. As a former professional surfer, I’m no stranger to the thrill of balancing on a board, but this was a different kind of ride. The owner greeted me with a warm smile and informed me that my tour would be a private session, a delightful surprise that promised a more intimate exploration of the island’s history.

Our guide, Amanraah, was a fountain of knowledge, and his passion for the island’s history was infectious. As we set off, the gentle hum of the Eco-glide beneath me was a soothing contrast to the crashing waves I was used to. We navigated through the fort’s quarry and into the dry moat, where Amanraah shared tales of pirates and battles that once echoed through these walls. Gliding Through History and Scenery

Leaving the fort behind, we glided along the picturesque Long Wharf Beach. The crystal-clear waters sparkled under the sun, a sight that never fails to captivate me, no matter how many beaches I’ve visited. Amanraah pointed out the historic lighthouse and the newly developed cruise port, each with its own story to tell. We paused for a moment to soak in the view, the salty breeze a familiar companion.

Our journey continued to Arawak Cay, where the vibrant colors and tantalizing aromas of the “Fish Fry” welcomed us. It was here that we took a break for a “lite bite” at a charming air-conditioned oasis. The conch fritters and glazed grilled wings were a delightful treat, perfectly complemented by a refreshing “Switcha” beverage. As we washed up and prepared to head out again, I couldn’t help but feel a deep appreciation for the island’s rich culture and history.

As we wrapped up our tour, I reflected on the unique experience of exploring Nassau on an Eco-glide. The combination of history, stunning scenery, and local flavors made for an unforgettable adventure. Back at the starting point, I chatted with the owner about his plans for a new excursion on Paradise Island. The idea of exploring another part of the Bahamas on a different type of vehicle was intriguing, and I made a mental note to check it out on my next visit. For now, though, I was content to bask in the afterglow of a day well spent, my heart full of the island’s stories and my spirit refreshed by the adventure.
