The Dambulla Cave Temple, also called the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the central part of Sri Lanka. It is 148 kilometers east of Colombo and 72 kilometers north of Kandy. Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka.
- Sigiriya Rock Hide - The next stop is the main attraction of the tour, Sigiriya Lion’s Rock.
Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most treasured historical monuments.
Locals refer to it as the Eighth Wonder of the World. This ancient palace and fortress complex holds significant archaeological importance and draws thousands of tourists annually. It is likely the most visited tourist destination in Sri Lanka.
The palace is situated in the heart of the island between Dambulla and Habarane on a massive rocky plateau 370 meters above sea level.
The Sigiriya rock plateau, formed from the magma of an extinct volcano, rises 200 meters above the surrounding jungles.
- Oak Ray Restaurant - Inamaluwa - The operator will stop for a buffet lunch at the Oak Ray Restaurant.
After lunch, there is an opportunity to visit a wood carving factory and a silk center at the same location.
The tour then returns to Colombo.
- Kaudulla National Park - A safari in Kaudulla National Park in Sri Lanka is a bucket-list experience for many tourists, offering an incredible wildlife spectacle. Located in the historic city of Polonnaruwa, Kaudulla National Park provides ample opportunities for travelers to see majestic elephants in their natural habitat. In addition to elephants, visitors can commonly see sambar deer, Sri Lankan axis deer, chevrotain, wild boar, Asian spoonbill, grey-headed fish eagle, painted stork, and openbill stork. Occasionally, one might catch a glimpse of a leopard or sloth bear in the forest. A bumpy ride through the evergreen forest of Kaudulla National Park along small trails is an adventure wildlife enthusiasts can’t resist. The Kaudulla reservoir, vital to the park’s wildlife, attracts herds of elephants during the dry season from nearby Minneriya, Wasgamuwa, and Somawathiya National Parks.
