Anuradhapura - As Sri Lanka’s first capital, Anuradhapura is a UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped in history and Buddhist culture. Established in the 4th century BCE, it thrived for over a thousand years. The city boasts impressive stupas such as Ruwanwelisaya, Jetavanaramaya, and Abhayagiriya, along with the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, the oldest recorded tree in the world. Anuradhapura continues to be a significant pilgrimage site, drawing visitors with its well-preserved ruins, ancient reservoirs, and profound spiritual importance in Sri Lankan history.

Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Known as Lion Rock, Sigiriya is a world heritage site chosen by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital. He constructed his palace atop this rock and adorned its sides with vibrant frescoes, reminiscent of the paintings in India’s Ajanta caves. The mirror wall features verses from as early as the 8th century, penned by people of all backgrounds on topics like love, irony, and various experiences.
SIGIRIYA - POLONNARUWA - SIGIRIYA
Polonnaruwa Vatadage - As Sri Lanka’s second ancient capital, Polonnaruwa is a UNESCO site with remarkably preserved ruins, including palaces, temples, and the iconic Gal Vihara Buddhas. Constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries, it showcases impressive irrigation systems like Parakrama Samudra. Notable landmarks include the Royal Palace, Vatadage, and Lankatilaka Temple, reflecting Sri Lanka’s rich medieval history and Buddhist heritage.
Minneriya National Park - Located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, Minneriya National Park was designated a national park on August 12, 1997, after being declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1938. The park was established to protect the catchment of the Minneriya tank and the surrounding wildlife. The tank, built by King Mahasen in the third century AD, holds historical significance.
SIGIRIYA - DAMBULLA - KANDY
Dambulla Cave Temple - Known as the Dambulla Golden Temple, the Rock Temple of Dambulla is located about forty-seven miles northwest of Kandy, the last capital of the Sinhalese kings, on the main road to Anuradhapura. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka, with the rock towering 160 meters over the plains. The area contains over 80 documented caves, with major attractions spread across five caves featuring statues and paintings.
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - Sri Dalada Maligawa, or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Situated in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, it houses the relic of the Buddha’s tooth. Historically, the relic has been crucial in local politics, as it is believed that whoever possesses the relic governs the country. Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, is a World Heritage Site primarily due to this temple.
KANDY - NUWARA ELIYA - ELLA
Ramboda Waterfall - This stunning waterfall is located in the Pussellawa area of Nuwara Eliya, at the Ramboda Pass. Known as Ramboda Falls or Ramboda Ella, it is formed by Puna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya. It pairs with Dunsinane Falls, created by Pundalu Oya, another tributary of the Kothmale River, and together they form a Y shape at the base.
Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden - Nuwara Eliya is renowned for its tea, thanks to its unique geo-climatic conditions. Situated at altitudes over 6,000 feet, with cool climates and moderate rainfall, the region is ideal for tea cultivation. The area experiences two seasons, eastern and western, with varying climatic conditions across estates. The tea produced here, from unusually small leaves, is the lightest among regional varieties.
ELLA
Nine Arches Bridge - The Nine Arch Bridge in Ella is part of the Demodara loop, spanning 91 meters and reaching a height of 24 meters. Its nine beautiful arches make it a picturesque location, set amidst dense jungle and agricultural landscapes. Behind the railway, a forest thrives, and below, tea leaves are cultivated. For those who love this scene and seek the ultimate Sri Lanka train experience, a journey from Kandy to Ella is highly recommended.
Little Adam’s Peak View Point - Also known as “Punchi Sri Pada,” this peak stands at 1141 meters. Little Adam’s Peak is a popular attraction for travelers visiting Sri Lanka. A gentle hike up the mountain offers a rewarding panoramic view, with paths winding through lush green tea plantations, waterfalls, and paddy fields, providing a scenic experience.
ELLA - YALA
Ravana Ella Falls - Named after the legendary King Ravana, these falls are linked to the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. Legend has it that Ravana, then king of Sri Lanka, kidnapped Princess Sita and hid her in the caves behind this waterfall, now known as the Ravana Ella Cave. The kidnapping was said to be in revenge for the disfigurement of his sister by Rama (Sita’s husband) and his brother Laxmana.
YALA - GALLE - BENTOTA
Yala National Park - As the most visited and second-largest national park in Sri Lanka, Yala consists of five blocks, two of which are open to the public, along with adjoining parks. The blocks have individual names, such as Ruhuna National Park (block 1) and Kumana National Park or ‘Yala East’ for the adjoining area. Located in the southeast region, it spans the Southern and Uva Provinces.
Galle Fort - Situated on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, the Bay of Galle was initially built by the Portuguese in 1588 and extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century from 1649 onwards. Galle’s earliest historical mention is on Ptolemy’s world map of 125–150 AD, when it was a bustling port trading with Greece, Arab countries, China, and others. It is noted as a “port of call of the Levant” in the cosmography of Cosmas Indicopleustes.

Madu River Buddhi Boat Safari Balapitiya - Together with the smaller Randombe Lake, connected by two narrow channels, it forms the Madu Ganga wetland. Its estuary and numerous mangrove islets create a complex coastal wetland ecosystem. During the boat ride, visitors can enjoy fish therapy and observe the area’s rich biodiversity.
Sea Turtle Hatchery - Located on Kosgoda beach, the Turtle Care Centre is one of 18 turtle hatcheries along Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Established in 1981 in the South Western coastal village of Kosgoda, it is renowned for hosting all five species of turtles that nest in Sri Lanka, unlike many other hatcheries on the island that only host some species.
