Osterwaal - A brief visit to the Maria Hilf Chapel near Osterwaal, nestled in a serene forest clearing, is highly recommended. The chapel’s origins date back to 1814 when grateful parents placed an image of the Virgin Mary in gratitude for their child’s miraculous recovery. The story of this healing spread, attracting many to pray at the beech tree with the Virgin Mary’s image. In 1875, a modest chapel was constructed beside the tree.

Liberation Hall - A short cycling trip on the Danube Cycle Path via Weltenburg to Kelheim is recommended. There, the impressive circular Liberation Hall stands on Michelsberg, built by King Ludwig I to commemorate the victories over Napoleon in the Wars of Liberation from 1813 to 1815 and as a symbol of German unity.

Donaudurchbruch - From Kelheim, part of the journey to Weltenburg Monastery can be taken by boat along the Danube (boat trip available for a fee, payable on site). This boat ride is one of Bavaria’s most beautiful excursions, passing through the “Weltenburger Enge” nature reserve with the stunning Danube Gorge. In 2020, it was honored as Bavaria’s “First National Natural Monument.”

Kloster Weltenburg - Founded around 600 by itinerant monks, Weltenburg Monastery is Bavaria’s oldest monastic site. By 800, it had adopted the rule of Saint Benedict. The Weltenburg Monastery Brewery, with its rich history, is the world’s oldest monastery brewery. Enjoy one of its award-winning beers in the adjacent beer garden.

Kastell Abusina am Limes - Near Bad Gögging is the Roman fort in Eining, a former cohort fort and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Limes. It is accessible to visitors at any time as an open-air museum.
