Liberation Hall - A short cycling trip on the Danube Cycle Path via Weltenburg to Kelheim is recommended. There, the impressive circular Liberation Hall stands on Michelsberg, built by King Ludwig I to commemorate the victories over Napoleon in the Wars of Liberation from 1813 to 1815 and as a symbol of German unity.
Donaudurchbruch - From Kelheim, part of the journey to Weltenburg Monastery can be taken by boat along the Danube (boat trip available for a fee, payable on site). This boat ride is one of Bavaria’s most beautiful excursions, passing through the “Weltenburger Enge” nature reserve with the stunning Danube Gorge. In 2020, it was honored as Bavaria’s “First National Natural Monument.”
