The residents of Kaymakli (historically known as Enegup) have built their homes around nearly a hundred tunnels of this underground city. Even today, locals use the most accessible parts of these tunnels as cellars, storage areas, and stables, which they reach through their courtyards. The city features low, narrow, and sloping passages. Although the underground city has 8 floors, only 4 are currently open to the public, with spaces organized around ventilation shafts.
